“The way it’s been going, it is. I feel like I was born old.”

I draw her close, resting her wet head on my shoulder. “Not right now. For the rest of your two weeks here, we have all the time in the world.”

Except I have to work a lot of it. I wonder if I should take a vacation. Close up the hut for a while. Wednesdays are slow. I could take a third day off. Maybe only open on Thursday close to dinnertime.

That’s the perk of working for yourself, right? You make the rules. My contract with the condo complex never stipulated hours. They don’t pay that much attention to me as long as I keep the hut neat and pay my lease on time.

I have to do it. The urge to make the most of our time together is overwhelming. I won’t think about the crash at the end. Only about what happens today.

“What’s that head of yours thinking?” Tillie asks.

“Whether I can take off Wednesday, too. And open later on Thursday.”

She lifts her head. “Because of me.”

My throat almost catches, but I clear it. “Yeah. Because of you.”

“Huh. The big entrepreneur is going to take some time off.”

I glance out at the tourists. Zeke and Mendo are rounding them up.

I slide my thumb across her bikini top, enjoying how she sucks in a breath and her nipple tightens into a pucker beneath the wet fabric. “I’m going to enjoy every inch of you for every moment you’re here. You in?”

Her eyes lift to me, half-lidded as she slides her hand up my thigh. “I’m in.”

“Do you have a beach fantasy?”

“Sex on it.”

“There’s sand, you know.”

“I’ll learn the hard way.”

I lean closer to her ear. “Tomorrow morning then? There’s a secluded beach we can reach by kayak.”

She shivers. “Yes.”

Mendo climbs the ladder, shaking his head at us as he turns to help the tourists into the boat.

Tillie turns around in my arms, leaning her back against my chest.

I get a magnificent view of her slender, pink-tinted legs as we wait for everyone to return to their seats. They chatter happily about the stingrays.

The boat fires up again, and then the wind races over our bodies.

I hold Tillie tight, my hand flat against her bare belly. My entire body hums with anticipation of getting to know her better. Not just the savvy, entertaining, sharp-witted bartender who worked with me for a night and beat me at my own game.

But the woman in my arms, falling into my kiss. Tomorrow, we’re going to have sex on a beach. Over and over again. I already know my thirst for her will be difficult to quench.

The bracing gusts of air with random sprays of ocean water add to the sense that I’m moving in an uncharted direction, taking a new tack, ready to try something new.

And I’m definitely throwing caution to the wind.

TILLIE

The next morning, Gabe drives us out to the marina, a backpack strapped to his motorcycle.
