"Yep."

"Mom gave you the ring to give to him?"

"Yep."

"And you gave it to him?"

Knox knew his brother wasn’t actually asking about the ring. He was asking whether or not Chrissy was the woman who should be wearing it. Knox and his brother hadn’t talked about Ford’s new relationship. They’d never actually talked about any relationship that Ford had been in because they’d been teens when he married his first wife and not much older when he got divorced.

He knew Seb was having the same reservations he’d had. "I did. She’s the one."

"Good."

The brothers, and he included Keaton in that, weren’t the type to talk every day, but they always had each other’s back. And if one of them needed to bury a body, they’d all show up with shovels, no questions asked.

Knox considered himself damn lucky to have his blood family and his SEAL family. He knew that everyone wasn’t as lucky as he was to have peopleintheir lives that they trustedwiththeir lives and knew would always show up for them.

He was glad that Laura had that, too. He’d known she did from all the stories she told him about her family, but meeting her sisters, nieces, and nephews yesterday and seeing them interact, even for a short period, just solidified for him how close they really were.

"Where areyou?" Seb asked.

The screen door slammed, and Knox heard the click-clack of Kennedy’s heels. "I’m at a house that—"

"Alright, I got the paperw—" When she saw that he was on the phone, she stopped talking.

"Kennedy Dawes, this is my little, less handsome brother Sebastian." Knox turned the phone toward the attractive blonde. If he wasn’t mistaken, her eyes widened and her lips parted when she saw his brother on the screen.

Knox had been fucking around about Seb being less attractive. Sebastian had the whole artist, tattooed, bad boy thing going for him. He had olive skin and dark hair that contrasted with his bright blue eyes. He was the only brother who had inherited his father’s baby blues.

Kennedy quickly covered up her initial reaction to seeing Seb and plastered a professional smile on her face. "Hello, nice to meet you."

"Hi." Seb responded.

When he turned the phone around, he could see that Kennedy wasn’t the only one who looked shellshocked by the virtual meeting. His brother might as well have hearts floating around his head.

As much as he’d love to Needlepoint Mafia this situation and play matchmaker, time was ticking, and he needed to get back to the Snack Shack before Laura closed. "I’ve got some paperwork to do. I’ll call you later."

"A’ight."

Knox disconnected the phone, and as he placed it back in his pocket, he noticed that Kennedy was still staring at the spot where the screen had been.

"So you have some paperwork for me to sign?" Knox asked.

She blinked as if she’d forgotten where she was. "Oh, um, yes. Right." She fumbled slightly as she set down the folder and instructed him where to sign.

Knox might not be able to play Cupid right now, but Seb would definitely be coming to town for Ford’s wedding, which Knox was fairly certain was going to happen sooner rather than later. If it were up to Ford, he and Chrissy would have gone straight from the pier to the courthouse and made it legal.

As he signed the paperwork, he made a mental note to make sure that Kennedy was invited to the wedding. Maybe he’d ask Laura to bring her as her plus one, since he knew that she wouldn’t be going with him.

Once he’d finished his final John Hancock, he and Kennedy said their goodbyes, and he hopped in his SUV to head straight back to his apartment. Thankfully, everywhere in town took less than five minutes to drive to. When he pulled into the parking lot of the Snack Shack, warmth filled his chest when he saw Laura through the glass window. He checked the time and saw that it was only two minutes before she closed.

He parked, got out, and marched toward the door. When he opened it, she looked up, and when she saw that it was him, her cheeks flushed. Pride swelled in his chest that he had that sort of effect on her.

"I was… I was just…just about to close," she stuttered.

"I know." He turned around, shut the door, and locked it. Then he flipped the switch on the fluorescent Open sign so that it went dark.

"What are you doing?" he heard her ask.
