Page 70 of Crashing Into You

Ford:I just heard the twins talking about it.

Seb:She mentioned something about it yesterday.

Ford:Why didn’t you say anything?

Ford had always been the most protective of their mom. It made sense because he was the oldest and also because he’d had the most time with their dad.

Seb:It wasn’t my business to tell.

Ford:What are we going to do about it?

Knox:Nothing. She’s a grown woman.

Ford:I don’t give a shit if she wants to date, but meeting random assholes on the internet isn’t safe.

Seb silenced his phone and put it down on the coffee table. His mom’s love life was none of his business. Plus, if anyone could handle herself it was their mom. She was smart and had been able to raise four boys alone and none of them had ended up dead or in jail.

He was starting to line the pieces back up against the wall when there was a knock on his door. When he opened it, he found his nieces standing in front of him.

“Dad’s freaking out,” Ivy announced dramatically as she walked inside.

“He’s upset because he found out Nana is dating,” Iris explained as she entered behind her sister.

He’d always found it so amusing to see the differences in the twins’ personalities. Ivy was older by only fifteen minutes but definitely took on the role of the older sister.

He was a teenager when they were born and had helped babysit a lot for the first five or so years of their lives. Once his career took off and he started to travel more, he saw them less, but they’d always been close. Then the past year when they’d all ended up in Los Angeles together, they’d gotten really close.

But their intelligence was where the similarities ended. Iris was a bubbly, loud, spontaneous, have-fun-now-think-later, kind of person. She was impulsive and worried about consequences—not later—never.

Ivy was the opposite. She was quiet, thoughtful, and never did anything without considering every single possible outcome. It’s not that she was an angel, she was just calculated in her disobedience.

His phone rang and he picked it up thinking it was Ford. It wasn’t. It was Kendall, his television and hosting agent.

“Hold on one second,” he told the twins and went in the back room.

“Hey Kendall,” he answered.

“Seb, season four was just picked up by Netflix. Cameras go up on Monday.”

“This Monday?” he asked. That was the day after tomorrow.

“Yep, I need you in New York tomorrow for preproduction meetings.”

“Tomorrow?” he repeated as he heard Ivy on the phone arguing with Ford.

Seb knew if he stayed in town, he’d wouldn’t be able to stay away from Kennedy. Last night had proven that. He’d gone for a run and ended up at her house. If his tattooing career was really over, then his mom was right, he did need to diversify.

This call was exactly what he needed right now. Another season of Tattoo Master would be good for his bank account and might open more doors for him. Plus, with his next show scheduled, Genesis will love all the publicity it will get with him being on season five.

He shouldn’t even be hesitating to say yes. But he was. He didn’t want to leave Kennedy. Which was even more of a reason he knew he needed to go.

Stars sparkled across the sky, dotting the inky blanket like diamonds. Laughter, music, and chatter surrounded Kennedy as the crowds enjoyed the Summer Nights Festival as she gazed up taking in the aerial beauty. She checked the time and saw that she still had fifteen minutes left on her shift covering the Whisper Lake Realty booth.

Besides being known for being fairytale-themed due to the popularity of the reality show and the castle, Whisper Lake was known for its festivals. Kennedy had always loved going to the town’s celebrations. There was something magical about them.

In high school, she’d attended them with Kade. Then in college, she’d gone with whoever she was seeing. As an adult, she’d taken more than one date to the events. She wasn’t sure why, but she always thought of them as romantic, cinematic even.
