Page 84 of Crashing Into You

She took in a shaky breath, and he saw moisture fill her lower lids. When she closed her eyes, a single tear slid down her cheek. Instead of brushing it away, he leaned down and kissed her cheek. Then he kissed her other cheek. Then her forehead. Then her nose. Then her chin. By the time he made it to her lips, her tight canal was contracting around him in spasms.

“Mine,” he spoke against her mouth as he began to move in and out of her slowly, in measured strokes.

Her arms wrapped around his neck, just like they had when he’d carried her into the room. She held him like she never wanted to let him go as he made love to her.

“Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine,” he repeated the word over and over again as he drove into her in steady, deep strokes. He was saying what she’d wanted him to say, what she’d asked him to say, and each time he did it was a declaration of his love.

Every time he’d been with her, he’d held back a part of himself. He’d been scared to give her all of him. But this time, he didn’t. He gave himself to her completely, shamelessly.

His body was damp with perspiration as he continued to drive in and out of her silken warmth. The pressure and friction of their bodies intimately joined soon resulted in an all-consuming need taking him over.

As much as he didn’t want this coupling to end, he knew that he couldn’t hold back much longer. He felt himself getting to the point of no return just at the moment that Kennedy’s thighs clenched around him and her fingers dug into the flesh at the back of his neck. The sting of her nails shot straight to his balls and he drove into her in one final, deep thrust spilling his seed inside of her.

When his body began to recover from the hottest release of his life, he started to push up off of her, but her arms tightened around him, holding him in place.

“Stay,” she protested.

He lowered back down on top of her and she wrapped her legs around him. He nuzzled his face into the crook of her neck. He held her like that for several minutes but was scared that he was crushing her, so he flipped them over so he was on his back and she was snuggled against his side.

Her head rested on his chest and he rubbed his hand up her bare back. His fingers grazed her bare skin up and down. Without even thinking about doing it he began to traced the letter I, a heart and the letter U on her back. Over and over again.

He might not be able to say the words, because she wasn’t ready to hear them. But he would show her. He would show her that he loved her.

Kennedy smiled at Marlene, who was on the phone, before scribbling her name on the sign in sheet. When she set the pen down, she noticed her father’s name on the top of the page. It was still strange seeing his signature and not feeling anxious. It was the opposite, actually. She was glad that he was coming to see Nana. It was her son and she knew how much it meant to Nana that he was back in her life. In their lives.

She’d spoken to Anne about her dad’s visit during their session earlier that day. She’d told her that she still didn’t trust him, but she didn’t feel as angry at him as she used to. Anne said something that had stuck with her. She said that if she looked at her life as a movie, then her dad had been cast as the villain. That was the role he’d played and now he was asking for a redemption arc.

Anne said it was up to Kennedy whether or not she would allow him to have it. This was her life and people didn’t get to decide what role they played in it. Anne explained that each person was the writer, director, and producer of their own life. They were in charge of casting all the cameos, supporting and lead roles. If they didn’t like the way the movie was playing out, it was up to them to change it.

Anne really leaned into metaphors.

But that wasn’t the actual truth. Kennedy would love to cast Seb as her leading man. Her husband. The father of her children. But she couldn’t.

As she made her way down the hall, she passed the bench that she’d sat on the first time she’d faceplanted into Seb’s abs and soaked his crotch region. It had only been a few months ago, but somehow it felt much longer than that.

From the first time she’d looked into Seb’s dreamy brown eyes, there’d been a familiarity. A spark of recognition in her soul…and in her hormones, if she were being honest. If that had happened to her with anyone but him, she might have died of humiliation when she inadvertently groped him in an attempt to dry his wet denim. But she’d barely registered the embarrassment over the flames of arousal.

She was still reminiscing on their meet-crotch when Pierre, Nana’s favorite nurse, walked out of her room.

“How’s she doing today?”

From his expression, she knew that the answer wasn’t good. “She’s been tired. But there’s a bug that’s been going around and I think she might have caught it.”

Kennedy nodded and forced herself to smile. She didn’t think that was the case, but she appreciated Pierre’s attempt to make her feel better about her nana’s declining health.

She pushed the door open and walked as quietly as she could into the room. When she did, she saw that Nana was lying in bed with her eyes closed. She was heading to the chair in the corner when she heard her nana ask, “What’s wrong?”

Kennedy turned around. “Nothing.”

“Bullshit.”

“Nana!” In all her thirty-five years, Kennedy had only heard her nana curse twice. Once when she’d shown up to the apartment Kennedy was living in with her mother and found that there was no food in the cupboards or fridge. And the other was today.

“Well, it is. I’m too old and too tired to beat around the bush. So sit down, and tell me what’s wrong.”

Kennedy lowered down onto Nana’s bed and before she said one word, tears threatened to fall down her face, but she successfully sniffed her emotion away. “I, um, got cast on Fairytale Love.”
