I was lost in what I was doing, cutting up lime and lemon wedges, when someone cleared their throat. My head snapped up in surprise and I blinked at the guy leaning on the bar.

“Can I get a Guinness on tap, please?” he asked.

I stared for another moment, mesmerized.

He was huge.

Handsome.

Familiar?

Why did he look familiar?

I couldn’t put my finger on it, so I quickly nodded and poured him the beer. I put it in front of him on a coaster, with a bowl of pretzels. “Do you want to put it on your room account or start a tab?” I asked.

“Room 1505.”

I smiled, nodded, and put the information into the computer.

Why did he look familiar?

I turned back, trying not to stare.

“Would you like a menu?” I asked him.

“Yeah. Thanks.”

I handed him one and started humming again, singing under my breath as I went back to cutting lemon wedges.

“Wicked ex,” he said.

“Excuse me?” I looked up in confusion.

“The song you were humming. It was ‘Wicked X,’ right?”

My cheeks suddenly felt a little warm. I hadn’t even realized that was the song I’d been humming. “Yeah. I’m a big Nobody’s Fool fan.”

“It’s a good song.” He took a pull from his beer.

“One of my favorites. That’s a great album. I listen to it all the time.”

“You’re not alone. They’re popular with the fans.” He paused. “We’ve enjoyed having them on tour with us.”

I froze.

Oh shit.

That was why he looked familiar.

He was one of the guys in Onyx Knight.

The guitar player who’d blown me off last night.

Now it all made sense.

He obviously didn’t recognize me, but that made sense since I’d purposely dressed down last night, not wanting to look like a groupie. I hadn’t been wearing makeup or my contact lenses, my hair had been in a ponytail, and I’d been in leggings, an oversized sweater, and boots. That had obviously been a tactical error on my part, but there wasn’t anything I could do about it now. I was too embarrassed to remind him I’d been the journalist he’d blown off, and anyway, I didn’t want to do anything that might piss him off because I needed a good tip since he would potentially be my only customer tonight.

“How can anyone not enjoy their music?” I asked after a moment. “Lexi’s voice is amazing.”
