“Well, let me know if you need help arranging anything. We fly friends and family to gigs all the time.”

“I’ll see what Jesse wants to do.”

“Anything you need, let me know and I’ll handle it,” I said. “Family and good friends are always a priority. My older brother and his wife might fly out for the London shows, and maybe my mom too.”

“Does your mom go to many?” she asked.

“Not a lot, but a handful every year. My younger brother likes to come on tour with us in the summer, when he’s not in school, but of course, we didn’t tour this past summer. He was bummed.”

“If he plays hockey, he probably can’t come to the London shows, right?”

“Probably not, but it depends. They get a little time off around the holidays. If he can fly in for the show and right back out the next day, I’ll get him a ticket.”

“That’s nice.” She looked at me curiously. “You seem to do a lot of nice things for people.”

“For family and close friends, I do. I mean, why not? I lead a pretty charmed life, so why wouldn’t I do nice things for others? Especially my family. My brothers are both awesome, and my mom is amazing. I wish we spent more time together.”

“Will you see them for Christmas?”

I nodded. “We’re going to Remy and Noelle’s for Christmas.”

“They’re in Fort Lauderdale, right? He’s the one that owns the hockey team?”

I nodded. “Yeah.”

“That sounds nice.” Her voice was almost wistful, and it took a lot of restraint not to invite her along.

“What do you and Greatty usually do for the holidays?” I asked instead.

“Not much. The last few years I’ve been hosting a Christmas Eve party for friends and co-workers who don’t have family here in L.A. And we usually spend Christmas Day volunteering at a local soup kitchen.”

“You seem to do nice things yourself,” I said.

“I try.”

“Don’t you have family to spend the holidays with?”

She shrugged. “My mother has invited us a few times, but I don’t care to spend time with her. It’s kind of a slap in the face to see her with her new family, acting like the perfect mom and housewife, when she couldn’t be bothered to raise me, you know?”

“Makes sense.”

“There are some cousins and stuff, but they’re all on the east coast, and we’re just happier at home. We don’t know them that well anyway, so we do our own thing. Greatty tends to spoil me, she always has, and now I try to do the same for her.”

“Why are you guys sitting here all serious?” Lexi demanded, standing over us. “I bet Devyn wants to dance! Come on, let’s go.” She held out her hand.

Devyn glanced at me and there was no doubt she did, indeed, want to dance.

“Go,” I told her.

“Come with us?” she asked softly.

Well, hell.

How was I supposed to say no?

It was impossible.

“I don’t like to dance,” I grumbled, even as I started to get up.
