I hear the jangle of Toto’s collar when he lifts his head and the bedroom door creaking as it’s pushed open. I slide my hand farther under the pillow, wrapping it around the gun, and wait. When Toto doesn’t do anything else, I relax.

I hear the sounds of clothing being stripped off before the bed dips on either side of me. Nico’s scent hits me first as he pulls me to his chest and wraps his arms around me. Rex presses against my back, his lips against my shoulder blade, before he settles in behind me with his hand around my waist.

Nico’s voice cuts through the silence of the room. “I’m sorry.”

“I know.”

“You okay?”

“I’m okay. I was pissed, but I’m mostly over it now. I didn’t want it to play out like that. I hate that you all keep getting the worst impressions of each other.”

He lifts his hand and cups my jaw, kissing my forehead. “It doesn’t matter how we treat each other as long as we all treat you with the love and respect you deserve. Honestly, we might never see eye to eye. I don’t think they’re good enough for you, but then I’m not sure any man is. I sorta hoped you’d settle down with a banker or an accountant, someone safe.”

“I’ll never be the girl that plays it safe, Nico. There’s too much chaos inside me.”

“Funny, sounds like there was a whole lot of Chaos inside you tonight,” Rex jokes. It’s moments like this that I miss having legs. If I did, I’d kick him in the balls.

“I’m mentally kicking you in the dick right now, Rex.”

“I wondered why I was getting hard.”

I snicker as Nico groans. “There is something seriously wrong with you. Please stop,” Nico complains.

“That’s not what you were saying last night. Rex, baby, don’t stop—” The rest of his words are cut off when Nico moves to cover Rex’s mouth with his hand.

“Stop talking.”

Rex’s words are muffled as he protests.

“If the following words out of your mouth aren’t ‘yes, Daddy,’ I’ll make sure you spend the week hard and get no relief.”

“You guys are killing me here. It’s one thing to be the third wheel, but it’s something else entirely to be the filling in a sandwich that you guys don’t even eat.”

Nico laughs as he releases Rex. He presses his forehead against mine. “Sorry.”

“Yeah, yeah, you say that now. But I’m the one with a dick pressed against my ass that’s hard for someone else. It’s no wonder my therapist finds me so fascinating.”

Rex chuckles. “Ignore it. It will go down in a minute. Soon as he realizes the skin is too soft and hair-free to be Nico’s, it will deflate…Yep, there you go.”

“I feel like I should be insulted. But right now, I don’t have it in me to be mad. Remind me in the morning, okay?”

“Sure, Jinx. That’s exactly what I’ll do.” Rex laughs.

The room falls silent for a little while before Nico breaks it. “We met them at the diner.”

“Met who, where?” I answer, half-way to falling asleep.

“Your men. We met them at Nancy’s.”

I tense and shove the cover down a little. “Say what now? You met Eightball, Splinter, and Knight at Nancy’s? What the heck for?”

“To talk about you. They filled me in on what happened today.”

I feel my face heat as I curse.

Nico chuckles as he tips my head up. “Not that. We’ll circle back to that later. They told me what went down at the clubhouse. You were shot and didn’t call me?” His tone is even, but I can hear the hurt underneath.
