“He’s dead by morning.” Lucian paced his living room, anger blazed on his face, and all I could do was give him a blank stare.

No matter what I said, it was as if he only heard whatever he wanted to hear about my situation or my life.

“Nobody is dead. This is between Damon and me. Stay out of it.”

“You’re my sister. I decide what will happen.”

I glared at him. “I’m going back to my apartment. I'd rather be alone than deal with this.”

“You’re not going anywhere. That fucker abused you.” He sat across from me, set his elbows on his knees, and leaned forward as if he could intimidate me with his scary presence.

“Stop saying that.” I matched his stance, making him frown, and he sat back, pulling out his phone.

“I believe what Ventana said. Pierce broke every rule in the club.”

“Why won’t you listen to me? He did it on purpose. He wanted me to use my safeword, and I wouldn’t.”

“Then it’s his responsibility to end the scene and walk away.”

“I’m going home.”

“Sit your ass down, Sophia.”

“Stop treating me like a child. I’m not a damn child.”

“Then stop acting like one.”

“Listen up, Lucian. I have been through enough over the last few years to make me more than capable of making my own decisions. I don’t care if you are my brother or the king of the fucking world. I don’t answer to you or anyone. I will leave, and if you don’t like it fuck off.”

“Try leaving and see what happens.”

“I knew I should have stepped in as soon as the arrest happened.”

“You couldn’t have helped. Damon was the one with the clout to get me out. Besides, he’s the one I picked to be with.”

“We are your family. Your loyalty is to us. Not Pierce.”

Was he listening to himself right now? This was his best friend we were talking about. Well, ex-best friend.

“Great, now you’re treating me like Father.”

“Don’t compare me to that asshole.”

“Then don’t act like him.”

“Then stop defending Pierce.”

I took a deep, steadying breath. “There is absolutely no point in talking to you. It’s like trying to reason with a brick wall. I’m going to get something to eat before I throw something at you.”

“Since you refused to let the doctor give you the results of your check-up from the club, she will be here in ten minutes. Eat fast.”

“I’m not going to die,” I growled. “I have a few bruises but nothing more. The extra tests were an overkill. Why the hell did I need a blood draw? You’re ridiculous.”

“It’s better to overkill than under.”

“I don’t understand how Elaine tolerates staying married to your bossy ass. I bet you were insufferable during her pregnancies.”
