“No shit,” he muses, trading blows like this is some kind of sparring session in the gym.

I move to the side, getting a better view of the guy, and I can’t help but agree with Marcus. He’s really good. Like really fucking good. “You ahh . . . you wouldn’t want a job, would you?” I ask, more than aware of what an asset a trained guard like this could be on my team, especially when it comes to training our newer recruits. Not to mention, anyone who can match the boys in a hand-to-hand fight is worth our time. Hell, he might even be able to teach the boys a thing or two.

“Uhhh . . . what?” he grunts, his gaze flicking toward me for the briefest second before blocking another deadly blow from Marcus.

“A job,” I confirm. “You’re amazing. I’ve never seen anybody able to hold up against one of the DeAngelis brothers. What do you say? Great pay, flexible hours, and we’re all about the loving family vibes.”

“I, ummm . . . what?” he sputters again. “You want to offer me a job? Right now?”

I let out a huff. “I really don’t like repeating myself,” I tell him.

“How great is this pay?” he asks, not easing up on Marcus for even a second.

The soldier at my back, Brantley, springs forward, a wide, impressed smirk on his face. “Like great fucking pay, man. I’m taking my kid to Hawaii next week and hitting up Spain at the end of the year.”

“And the hours?” he asks. “I’ve got kids and a bitch of a wife.”

I hear Roman to my left but don’t glance his way, needing to keep myself aware of our surroundings. “Are you seriously offering this guy a job while he’s in the middle of trying to kill my brother?”

“Uhh, yeah,” I mutter. “He’s about to hand Marcus his ass. Why wouldn’t I offer him a job? And besides, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I highly doubt those new guys Marcus hired last month are going to make it through the night, and if we’re going to have to replenish numbers, we might as well do it with guys who can actually hold their own against assholes like you.”

“Hey,” Levi says from my right.

“Oh, come on. You know you’re an asshole,” I tell him. “But a sexy as fuck one.”

Levi just smirks and continues with what he’s doing, and seeing as though I’m clearly preoccupied with defending my job offerings, Brantley inches forward again. “Apart from situations like this when we’re called in at a moment’s notice, the hours are great. Good flexibility for the guys with families. Day shifts. Night shifts. Whatever suits you, bro. Plus, you seem like the kind of guy who likes to actually see the action rather than just patrol around some fuckwit's house, and let me tell you, I’ve seen more action working for the DeAngelis family than I have anywhere else.”

The guy looks back at me, consideration in his eyes. “Promotions? Sick days?”

“Always.”

Another second passes before he finally steps back from Marcus, both hands raised in surrender to keep from having Marcus lay his ass out. “Alright,” he says with a nod, his curious gaze landing on Marcus before an intrigued grin pulls at his lips, and just like that, I’m no longer unsure if Marcus has just found a new best friend, but positive that he has. “I’m in. Where do you want me?”

“Fall in,” Marcus tells him. And with that, he does, turning on the untrained guards filling the Dragonis' back lawn.

Marcus barks questions at New Guy and he gives him all the information he needs as we hastily get through the guards, quickly hiding their bodies from view. Then as we finally reach the back porch of the massive home, there’s not a single sign that anything just went down, just my men patrolling the area, falling in line as though they’d been there the whole time. Though if the Dragonis look close enough, they’d notice the unnatural ruffle of the trees in the nearby woods as my soldiers slowly weave through the thick trees, lining themselves on the border of the property, waiting for our signal.

Considering we don’t have every other guard on the property coming for us, I’m certain that we’ve gotten this far undetected. New Guy moves toward the back entrance, entering a code for the door before slowly opening it and peering inside.

“It’s clear,” he says before standing back and allowing us to enter.

Not ready to trust New Guy yet, Roman goes first, checking around the back entrance before nodding to us. We all file in, Dill and Doe strutting along too. Missions like this are some of their favorite things in the world. Roman silently closes the door behind us, and we all gather around him, the wolves sitting at his feet. Even they know damn well he’s their commander for this. He looks back at New Guy. “Where are they keeping my son?”
