And for Xander.

I shed the T-shirt and panties I wore to bed and toss them into the hamper. Then, wearing nothing but what the gods gave me, I return to the bedroom.

He’s lying on his side, head propped on his hand, all aglow in the candlelight. And, to my utter amusement, he crooks a finger at me.

“Over here.”

“I mean, I planned to come over there.” I walk very slowly and watch with satisfaction as his eyes travel lazily down my nude body. “But now that you’re all bossy, I think I’ll take my time.”

He smirks, and with his long arms, simply reaches out and snatches me around the waist to tumble me back onto the bed.

“There.” He seems quite happy with himself as he kisses me, long and slow. Our legs tangle, and I can feel that he’s already hard and ready for me.

Of course, he’s always ready for me. That was never an issue with Xander.

He kisses my forehead and then my nose, moving his hand down my ribs to my hip.

“As much fun as this is,” I whisper before biting his chin—just because I can, “we have to remember that we have a goal here.”

“Right.” That hand drifts over my ass, and his long fingers skim the very outside of my labia, making me suck in a sharp breath. “Goals. Got it.”

“Huh?”

He laughs and pushes me onto my back, then links our fingers and braces my hand above my head as his mouth does delicious things to my neck.

“This is going to be slow,” he whispers into my ear. “And we’re going to chant the spell over and over again, together.”

“I don’t know the words.”

“I’ll teach you.” So much promise hangs in those words. “Look at me, baby.”

I didn’t even realize I’d closed my eyes.

“It’s not a long spell,” he continues.

“Some of the most powerful incantations are the short ones.” I can’t help but sigh when he drags his cock along my wet folds. “How in the hell am I supposed to concentrate?”

There’s that sly smile again. “We’ll make it work. Goddess, you’re unbelievable, Lorelei.”

He’s always been vocal during sex. Always. So, he’ll have no issue at all with speaking the spell.

I, on the other hand, am mostly good at making sounds. I can’t even remember my name when he’s inside me.

“Focus, sweetheart.”

I open my eyes again and work to keep them trained on him as he slides so effortlessly, so smoothly, inside of me.

“Xander.”

“I know.” He kisses me softly. “We’ve got this.”

“Damn right, we do. All right, what do we say?”

“You can repeat each line after me, okay?”

I nod and bite my lip when he pulls back, just until only the head of his cock is seated inside of me.

“Here we go.” He’s still holding my hand, his eyes on mine, and goddess knows he’s cradling my heart inside his. I’ve never felt closer to him than I do right now. “Heart to heart, soul to soul, two as one, our power grows. Mind to mind and skin to skin, our power soars, let it begin. Heart and soul, mind and flesh, only us, our auras mesh.”

He prompts each line, and then I repeat them. Finally, once I’ve memorized it, we begin chanting it together. The flames of the candles grow around us as the energy in the room increases. We’re speaking slowly at first, Xander’s movements matching the tempo, and then it all starts to grow. The words, the thrusts, and our breaths become a fire all on their own.

He doesn’t miss a beat in the words, but when Xander can see that I’m ready to fall apart, he nods, urging me on. I succumb to wave after wave of pure emotion and sensation rolling through me.

I’m incredibly proud that I keep it together enough to continue the spell with him, and then he’s coming, too, finishing just as we utter the spell for the last time.

The wind calms, the flames return to their normal strength, and we’re left a panting, sweaty mess in the middle of his huge bed, grinning at each other.

“That felt like a mating spell,” I inform him.

“It’s both.” He flops onto his side to spare me from his weight and tries to catch his breath. “It’s a protection mating spell.”

“It was intense.” I fling my arm over my eyes, chest still heaving. “Goddess, it was intense. How have we never done that before?”

“We didn’t need it before.” He turns his head to look at me. “And I didn’t know about it before.”

“How do you know about it now?”

“I read about it in Jonas’s sister’s grimoire.”

“Wow, that’s a three-hundred-year-old spell?”

“At least.”

“That’s pretty cool.” My heart and breath are starting to calm down finally, and the air is chilly on my skin, so I pull the covers over us.

“Do you feel any better?”

I’m quiet as I listen to the house around us. It feels…settled. “I think so. It’s almost as if we just erected a big bubble around us.”
