His words shook me from my sleepy state of mind, almost making me feel like I’d just been slapped. Did Charlie really think I was doing all of this to solve him? Like he was a charity case and I was the one to fix him up?

I looked at the ceiling, surprised by my own frustration. “Are you really going to make me say it?”

He let out a breath, walking away from the sunroom and back toward the living room couch. “I’m so sorry, Jax. I didn’t mean that. Let’s just try to get some sleep.”

A fire flared inside me. For fuck’s sake, why was it so hard for me to just say what was on my mind? It was like I’d been cursed into a life of being a great listener, but never being able to express myself.

Charlie just went to his pillow on the couch, fluffing it up.

He really was going to make me say something out loud that I hadn’t even figured out how to formulate in my own head yet.

“I want you,” I blurted out, walking over toward him in the living room. “Screw it. I want you, or I have a crush, or whatever. And I don’t even know how to say this kind of thing, because I barely know how to feel this kind of thing, and it’s driving me crazy. I’m into you. I want to be around you. I want to kiss you, like, every time I see you, and I had a sex dream about you. When you come into the brewery, I feel like the inside of my body is doing backflips, or something. If that isn’t a crush, I don’t know what is. So will you just stop acting like I’m the one doing you a favor?”

My cheeks seared with heat as I spoke.

Oh God.

I’d just said a lot. Too much. Way, way too much, and probably made a huge mistake by doing it. With every word, I waited for Charlie to burst out laughing, roll his eyes at me, or tell me to leave his house. This was why I was better as a listener.

Charlie looked at me with an expression I couldn’t read for a moment. I held my breath, not knowing if he was upset, excited, or just plain shocked. When he finally spoke, it was in a soft voice.

“You had a sex dream about me?”

I let out a breath, scrubbing my palm over my face. “I say all of that and that’s what you get out of it?”

He gave me a glittering look. “I’ll get in the bed with you if you promise to finally get some real sleep. Okay?”

“Okay.”

I headed back to the bedroom quickly, as if I was convinced that if I waited one more moment he’d change his mind. I tucked under the sheets in the dark, a crackle of excitement hitting my veins as I felt him getting in on the other side of the bed.

Telling myself to cool it wouldn’t have done a thing. The moment he was under the covers with me, I slid over like I was a magnet drawn right to him, my own quiet desperation surprising me a little.

And God, I could smell his hair as I wrapped an arm around the warm bulk of his body, pulling him in close toward me. My groin pushed up against the side of his thigh, my very obvious erection hitting him there, and even though I hadn’t done it on purpose I sure as hell wasn’t regretting it.

For fuck’s sake. I was two seconds away from dry humping him like I was some horny teenager who couldn’t control myself.

“Sorry,” I muttered, reaching down to straighten out my cock. “Still think I’m faking it?”

Charlie hummed, turning in my arms so that he was facing toward me. In the ambient light, I could just make out his face, a playful smile there.

Thank fuck.

“Guess you aren’t faking it,” he murmured.

I leaned in and crushed my lips to his, shifting my position until I’d practically climbed on top of him under the covers. His fingertips skated around my waist as I settled into a straddle above him.

His tongue came out to slide against mine as he pulled me closer down onto his body. Like he needed me. And god dammit, I liked that feeling. My cock got harder than a fucking rock, and for once, I didn’t stop to question it.

“Thought you said we were just going to sleep,” he whispered against my lips a moment later, when my whole body had started feeling like it was made just for him.

“I guess I lied,” I breathed, leaning in to bite his lower lip.

He groaned. “You drive me fucking crazy,” he said under his breath before catching my lips in another kiss. “You have to tell me what you want. What you actually want. Otherwise I’m going to assume things—”
