“So I’m assuming Rhys didn’t make it worse?”
No, no he didn’t.My muscles were loose and rested, maybe a little sore on my inner thighs where I was squeezing as I came on Rhys’ tongue, but other than that, I was rested and ready to play.
All of that I kept to myself, but I started pacing the small room and smiling like a lunatic.
“You there?”
“Yeah, sorry, I spaced out. Rhys is coming to the game tonight.”
“Are you serious? The one game I’m going to probably die in?”
“Dramatic much?”
“Just need a day off, or a night out. Oh, how about Friday? We don’t have practice Saturday. Let’s go dancing.”
“Count me in.” I loved to dance, but I hated going out. For Erin though, I tried to make the effort when she asked, which wasn’t very often. “Just not that dingy place we went to last time.”
“Rachel was telling me about a place downtown. A rooftop bar, dance floor, a pool, and a gorgeous view. I’ll get the name of it.”
Rhys’ rooftop pool popped into my mind and I smiled, thinking about him diving in and then coming up to kiss me. The view was gorgeous. His chest was dripping with water, his lips were puffy, his eyes were boring into me like he was on a mission to devour me.
“Hello?”
“Sorry, I keep spacing out. Trying to get ready for class. I’m in. Just tell me where and we will make a night of it.”
“That’s my girl,” Erin shouted. “Okay you get to class, I’m going back to sleep until my afternoon class.”
She hung up and I glanced at the time, seeing I only had a few minutes to get across campus. I grabbed my books, quietly thanked Rhys for the morning shower, and started running so I wasn’t late. I got into the lecture hall just in time to slide into a seat and get my books ready.
Forgetting all about the text I was going to send Rhys.
ChapterTwenty-Two
Rhys
No matter how much I denied it, Cruz saw straight through me and knew I fucked Ash. He did a double take when he saw me walk into the locker room for practice and immediately called me out.
“I’m all for it,” he rambled on next to me as we dressed out. “But don’t let that anger you had toward Mel go. You’ve played better the last few months than you have your entire career. That is literally saying something. Although it helps when you don’t punch anyone and can stay on the field.”
“It's notliterallysaying something,” I scoffed. “I just haven’t focused on anything else. And IGoogledwhat Hugo said to me, it wasn’t nice. He had it coming.”
His laughter followed him through the locker room as he headed to the field. Meanwhile, I was stewing on what I had just said. I hadn’t been focused on anything but soccer, so I was playing at a high level. Colin’s main concern with Ash was that she wasn’t focused enough. I had to wonder if we were both going to play like shit now that the only thing we could focus on was getting back in bed together.
“I don't even care,” I laughed to myself after a few minutes of trying to be mindful of the issue. “Worth it.”
“Alright guys,” Coach Sandy started clapping his hands and ushering us to the field. “Away game in Atlanta this Friday. Let’s have another good practice.”
Fuck, I had been so wrapped up with Ash in my head, I forgot that I got to see my brother at the game in Atlanta. We were going to have dinner afterward. It was perfect timing, because by Friday, I was going to need to start washing Ash out of my system. A trip out of town would do me good, remind me how reckless it was to get attached to someone else so soon after a heartbreak.
I ran to the field with a new resolve and practiced like I was going to take special joy in beating Atlanta. Miami versus Atlanta was the only time Levi didn’t root for Atlanta. He had friends on that team, tried getting me to sign with them, and pulled for them to win.
Just not when I was in town.
When practice ended, it was close to Ash’s game time so I took a quick shower and started to head out. Cruz stopped me though, looking at me with a smirk on his face.
“Wanna grab a drink tonight?”
“Headed to the university for the game.”
