She eyed me and shook her head with an evil smirk. “He’s coming. But you know damn well that nothing is happening.”

“But does he?”

“Of course! I wouldn’t lead him on. Although he is trying to talk me into going out and us finding a girl for a threesome together.”

That got a laugh out of me. Leave it to Cruz to find out Erin was into chicks and then try and manufacture a threesome. “Well don’t let me know if that actually happens.”

“It won’t be happening. I have no desire to share with Cruz, much less have his dick anywhere near me.”

“Something was lost in translation then. Rhys told me Cruz came to the game to get in your pants and he tagged along. I had already told Rhys that Cruz wasn’t your type.”

“Rhys is playing dumb then because Cruz only said that as an excuse to come to the game and drag Rhys along.”

“Why?”

“Oh sweet Ashlynn.” Erin laughed. “Rhys has been in a bad mood for two weeks and thanks to my new friend, the goalie of the Inferno, I have been kept apprised. Cruz was hoping getting Rhys here would fix him again.”

“Well,” I cringed and lowered my voice. “Bad news. He may be fixed, but he broke me in the process.”

ChapterThirty-Four

Rhys

Seeing Ash, kissing her, making her come.

I needed her more than ever, and that one moment between us was all it took to get my head out of my ass and go to her. I didn’t know what the future could hold for us, but I knew I would regret not trying.

It was late by the time I finished dinner with Levi and took him back to the airport, so I went straight home. Cruz had been calling all night, probably wondering what happened, but I couldn’t talk to him and kept silencing his calls as I paced my living room. I just wanted to talk to Ash and waiting for daylight seemed like a waste of time.

Leaving my phone, I grabbed my keys and hit the button on the elevator. I was impatient as I waited for the doors to open and I practically dove in head first when they finally parted. I hit the button for the parking garage a minimum of 24 times, hoping that it got the hint to hurry.

Since it was so late, the roads were practically empty, and I made it to the university in record time. Leaving my phone seemed like a good idea at the time. It was a distraction that I didn’t want to worry about. But as I parked across the street from Ash’s apartment, I instantly regretted that decision. I should have called, or texted her. Instead, I was about to possibly scare the shit out of her.

Making my way to her door, I took a deep breath, and knocked lightly. I had planned to knock a little louder every two minutes until I woke her up, but the door flew open quickly, making me jump.

“What are you doing here?”

“I’m…I’m…” I was startled and couldn’t talk. I was also enamored by how her eyes seemed to shine even in the dark. “Fuck you’re gorgeous.”

“Rhys.” She shook her head, pulling a blanket tighter around her shoulders. “Are you drunk?”

Snorting, I gave her a half smile and licked my lips. “Haven't had a drop. I just needed to see you.”

“Your magic worked, if that’s what you wanted to know. Gave me a nice little orgasm and sent me back onto the field. We won.”

“That wasn’t…” I took a deep breath and leaned against the door jam. “Can I come in?”

“We usually end up naked when we’re alone.”

“Ash,” I sighed. “If I wanted to fuck you, I wouldn’t be worried if we were inside or not. I’d fuck you right here on the front step. And to be clear, I always want to fuck you. But right now, we need to talk.”

“It's late.”

“I’m not leaving.”

She saw how adamant I was and backed up, making room for me to enter. She had her laptop open on her bed, a movie paused on the screen, and a dim lamp in the corner.

I took a seat on the edge of the bed since it was the only thing she had in the small space that could serve as a seat. Keeping the blanket wrapped around her, she sat down and crossed her legs facing me.
