“We’ll try to get back before the game, after our practice, but not sure we will make it in time.”

“Rhys,” I smiled. “You don’t have to come to all the games.”

“I know I don’t have to, but these may be the last games of your career. I want to be there for them.”

I rested my head on his shoulder until we got to the airport. The flight home was fun and quick, the four of us laughing like kids, and playing a card game on the table between our seats.

As we taxied down the runway, we all turned our phones back on, and Cruz’s immediately started ringing. He silenced it, but the calls kept coming, so he held a finger up and took the call with a worried look on his face.

“Dad, I just landed and can’t talk. Is everything okay?”

We stayed quiet and let Cruz listen to his call, watching as his face transformed from carefree, to a look of pure horror.

“No,” he sighed. “Dad no!”

“Oh my God,” I whispered, fearing the worst for him.

“Isn’t there anywhere else? I will even pay!”

Rhys’ eyes narrowed, intrigued. Erin, who was closest to Cruz, started smiling at whatever she could hear his dad saying. I settled back into my chair, relieved. If it made Erin smile, then whatever news Cruz’s dad was telling him, wasn’t life or death.

When the door to the jet started to open, Cruz said goodbye and stood up, grabbing his things.

“You gonna tell us what that was all about?” Rhys asked first.

“My freaking stepsister is coming to Miami next week and dad wants her to stay with me while she goes to a few job interviews.”

“And you two don’t get along?” I questioned.

“I haven’t seen her since she was eighteen and even that was just for a minute. It’s been years, I don’t even know her.”

“But she’s family,” I shrugged. “Take it from me. Family is important. Unless they suck.”

“Her mom married my dad when she was twelve, and I was fourteen. I lived in Miami with my mom, so I only saw her every once in a while. I’m not really sure she counts as family.”

“He said it was just a week or two,” Erin sighed. “You have a big enough apartment. It’ll be okay.”

“I guess,” he sighed and walked down the steps of the jet. “I just don’t like sharing my space. It’s sacred. And what if she wants me to talk to her?”

Rhys followed me down the steps and to another waiting car service. He and I were headed directly to his place where I had been staying since my mother reappeared in my life. I had stashed some clothes there, and for all intents and purposes, we had been living together.

Meanwhile, Cruz was pouting and mumbling in Spanish as he and Erin made their way to a different car that was heading to drop them off at their own places. Erin was about to get a hard core Spanish lesson on that drive.

“He’s lucky he has a sister to be annoyed with,” I mumbled to Rhys as we climbed in the backseat.

He started to speak, and then grimaced, unsure if he should say the words that were about to come out of his mouth. He stopped himself twice more before finally saying it.

“You will have one soon. Mine or not, this baby will be your sibling.”

I smiled, the thought suddenly making me feel overwhelmed. A brother, or a sister, no matter how much older I was than them, was going to be a blessing.

“Wonder what Melanie will have to say tomorrow,” I groaned, already anticipating her being a bitch.

Rhys pulled me into his lap and started kissing my neck. “Let’s worry about that tomorrow. I want to celebrate your win tonight.”

He squeezed my thigh and moved his fingers to the waistband of the team sweats I was wearing. I froze, worried the driver would see him dipping his hand down, and his fingers between the folds of my pussy. “Rhys,” I whispered in warning.

“He knows not to look,” he whispered back. “Just let me feel you. Let me see how wet my girl is tonight.”
