Practice should have been enough, but when I got home, my body was still buzzing with the need to get rid of some energy. Then, that text from Hunter made it official. The sound of incoming texts from him came from where I'd tossed my phone, but I wasn't checking it or taking it with me.

Honestly, I wasn't even sure what had me so anxious. Even if Hunter found out that I was seeing Tatum again, what would he do? It was their fight to have, not mine. For me, it was a favor he asked for, so what right did he have to dictate the outcome?

When I returned from my run and let the shower wash away the rest of my anxiety, I finally read the texts he had sent me.

She will. Thanks, man.

Hopefully, that holds her over for a few weeks.

By then, we should be okay.

Fuck that guy. Tatum didn't deserve his bullshit. Hopefully, in a few weeks, she will have ridden my dick hard enough to forget Hunter even existed.

Instead of responding to Hunter, I pulled up my contacts and dialed Tatum.

"Hello?" Her sweet voice answered.

"Leaving work?"

"Tripp?" She giggled. "I just left. How did you know?"

"You told me you got off at five, so I was counting the hours all day."

"You're so full of shit," she laughed. "But I like the thought. Didn't you have practice?"

"We practiced early to avoid the heat of the day, then I went for a long run, and now I'm just making sure you know I'm thinking about you."

Her silence was deafening. It spoke so much louder than if she had said anything at all because I was doing what she had told me she wished Hunter would do. Prioritizing calling her, making a point to just talk. Damnit, was I playing games with her?

"You there?" I asked, even though I could hear her breathing and the sound of her car as she drove home.

"Yeah. I just…you surprised me. That's all."

I surprised myself.

"So I have a question."

"Should I be worried?" she giggled.

"Depends on what your boyfriend had to say after last night."

"I um…"

"Not asking for your hand in marriage, just don't want to step on any toes."

Tripp, you asshole, you were stepping on all kinds of toes knowing she was Hunter's and not backing off. But did it count since I knew her before he asked me for his favor?

"Just wondering about the game Friday."

She was quiet for a few more minutes, and I let her mull over her decision. Then, finally, she spoke so softly I wasn't even sure I heard her correctly. "Okay."

The relief and excitement I felt with that one word was foreign. I had never had someone come to my game to watch me play. I wasn't even sure how to make sure she got the tickets. It took a quick side text to Rhys to ask while she was waiting on the line.

Rhys was quick, though, and I read his directions off to her.

"I have to put your name on a list. All you have to do is give your name at the ticket booth, and they'll give you my player tickets."

"Okay," she replied with the same single word, only with a little more excitement.
