"Before I fucked you, I tried showing you, telling you, but you didn't care."

"This is so fucked up."

"Oh, Coconut, it gets even worse."

ChapterEighteen

Tatum

Everything that Tripp was telling me was making my head spin. Before he arrived, I had worked myself up as I repeatedly thought about Tripp knowing Hunter. But if everything Tripp said was true, I had bigger problems with Hunter than I realized.

"What else?" I asked, nearly breathless.

As soon as he realized how upset I was, he softened and pulled me up into his lap. My arms wrapped around his neck, and his arms made me feel safe as they engulfed me in a hug. His head shook, and I knew whatever else he had to tell me was exactly what he promised it'd be—worse.

"He texted me last night from some messenger app as I was walking inside your apartment. He knew I was there, Tatum. He told me I better not go inside. The only reason I left was because I thought I could find him, or call him and figure out what the hell he was doing."

My body started shaking uncontrollably, the serene setting having no effect on my anxiety. The only thing that helped was that I wasn't alone. Tripp was caressing my back, whispering soothing tones into my ear, and letting me process what he had just told me.

"He called me today," I finally whispered, knowing Tripp was right. "He asked me to come to the university to watch him work out. I didn't answer the text, just came straight out here, but when I pulled into the parking lot, he called and asked me why I wasn't there."

"He knew you were at the beach, didn't he?"

"I told him, but he knew I wasn't home, that's for sure."

"Fuck," Tripp gritted out. "Has he ever been like this?"

"No. Not when we were together a few years ago. I don't know what he did when he was in League One, but he's been standoffish since we reconnected. That was why I broke up with him. I thought he was back to try again with me the way we were, but…"

"Shhh," Tripp pulled my hair, tilting my head back, and put his forehead to mine. "It's okay, Coconut. You know now and can distance yourself until he realizes you're no longer his."

"It hurts," I confessed. "Honestly, I don't understand why he asked you to meet with me that night, either. Did he know we had already met?"

"I don't know. But before I met you, he told me a little about you. I promise that isn't what any of this has been."

"Then what's it been?"

"Just me and you, meeting each other and having fun. Hunter is just a coincidence."

I didn't believe in coincidences but considered what Tripp had said. It explained why he had been so messed up the night before when he was warring with himself before we had sex.

"Okay," I nodded, my head still against his. "I know."

"You're still shaking."

"I thought today would be different. This wasn't on my bingo card for the day. Hunter is scaring me. And I didn't get this cabana for us to argue in. I got it for us to…."

"You did good," he moaned. "No one can see us. We aren't arguing, we just had a misunderstanding. I'm no longer messed up over the morality of our situation either. Especially now that you know as much as I do. And I can make you forget Hunter, just like I told you I wanted to do."

His mouth moved to my neck, and he sucked hard on my skin, then gently bit his way to my shoulder. Running my fingers through his hair, I started rocking against him, feeling his cock already hardening.

"You deserve better than him," Tripp moaned. "And until he's out of your life for good, I want to help you not to care that he's gone."

"Please," I cried. The anxiety from hearing about Hunter was quickly turning into a need to have Tripp inside me again.

"No one can see us. But I bet you wish they could, don't you, Coconut? You want that server to come back around and watch you climbing on top of my cock?"

My moan was loud enough that anyone walking behind us could have heard and would know what was happening. Tripp was right about the server. Even though I had been upset when she came to check on us, I still wanted to claim Tripp. I considered climbing into his lap right then and there and kissing him so she knew to fuck off. All she had done was ask for an autograph, but considering he was lying next to a woman, it felt like the wrong time to fangirl. I wondered if she had done it on purpose, expecting Tripp to flirt back with her in front of me.
