Tripp

"Where's your phone?"

"I left it in my car. That was why I wrote the note for you to find me."

We had managed to disconnect our bodies and lay down next to each other, watching the waves crash onto the shore of the beach. The cabana had fans that blew directly onto us, and we were still trying to cool down.

Sighing, I almost laughed. "I thought that note was leading me to Narnia."

"I wrote it, and then was left to my thoughts for too long."

That made me laugh, not because it was funny, but because the mindfuck Hunter gave us was out of hand. What the fuck was he thinking?

The server knocked on the outside of the cabana and then poked her head around. "How are we doing? Can I get you some drinks?"

Tatum leaned over onto my chest, and my arm wrapped around her as she spoke. "Can you bring us two piña coladas?"

The server’s eyes locked with mine, asking if that's what I really wanted, so I held up two fingers and added. "In two coconuts, please. Pink straws."

"Of course," she smiled. "Any lunch?"

"Are you hungry, baby?" I squeezed Tatum, laying the affection on thick. After making Tatum think the server was watching us fuck, she was claiming me in a way that I never thought would be sexy. Yet, how she leaned in and held onto me made my dick hard again, and I wanted to feed into even more.

"How about some cheese dip?"

"Mmm, sounds perfect." Looking back to the server, I nodded. "Two orders of cheese dip as well."

"Absolutely, I'll put that order in."

She disappeared, and I started laughing again, making Tatum look up with a smile. "I couldn't help it," she confessed.

"Mmm it's sexy as fuck," I moaned.

"I practically peed on you, Tripp. You're not even mine."

"Yeah, Coconut," I sighed. "I think I am."

We were quiet so long after that I thought Tatum had fallen asleep. She was still lying on my chest, not moving, and her breathing had evened out. All I could do was lay still and think about how fast things could change and when you least expected it.

I'd have laughed if someone had told me a few weeks ago that I'd be holding someone in my arms, thinking of ways to protect them. But that was precisely what I was doing. I told myself that it wasn't my place to protect Tatum, but I felt like it was all I wanted to do.

"You're thinking hard," she whispered.

"I thought you fell asleep."

"We are both thinking hard."

"Do me a favor and check your phone when you get in your car. Maybe Hunter is tracking you that way."

She tensed up, and I hated that I made her uncomfortable again, but before we got distracted and moved on, I needed to remind her that Hunter was crossing the line and she needed to figure out to what extent. Unless he was stalking her physically, he had to have somehow set up a way to track her phone. It was the only plausible explanation.

The mood lightened once our drinks were brought, and the rest of the day was easy. We laughed and talked, staying off the topic of Hunter and telling each other more about ourselves. Never before had I told anyone about my mom, but I found myself telling Tatum everything.

"She worked her ass off for me. When I signed with the Inferno, I took my bonus and paid off her house. It was the least I could do, and all she allowed me to do. She still works at a diner. She loves it though. All her friends are there and she likes chatting with the regulars. One day, I'll get her on a plane to come to a game, but she's not a traveler, so who knows when that will be."
