Page 11 of Tainted Deception

Jace smirked, the seriousness fading away. “That can be arranged. We wouldn’t want you to be bored while we keep you here. And I’ve been dying to taste you again. Just say the word, Rynn.”

I couldn’t tell if he was messing with me or not, but I wasn’t falling for it. Everything was already so messed up that sleeping with either of them would be a mistake. I shot him a glare before turning my back on them and going into my bathroom, desperately needing space. I sagged against the door after I locked it, rubbing my hands down my face.

If Ellie didn’t find a way to get me out of here soon, I’d have to plan it on my own.

“It’s been three days,”I snapped, crossing my arms. “I need to get the hell out of this room.”

Jace glanced up from pouring a cup of coffee. “Pratt brought your homework.”

“Let me rephrase that,” I said coldly. “You two are driving me fucking crazy.”

Kian chuckled as he walked out of the bedroom wearing only a pair of gray sweatpants. His hair was still wet from the shower, and it fell over his eyes as he peered at me. He looked like a wet dream, but I forced my dirty thoughts away as fast as they came. I needed to keep my mind clear around them, and thinking about sex was the worst kind of mistake.

“Why don’t you just spill who you work for?” Kian asked, grabbing a cup and pouring himself some coffee.

I grinned. “I wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise.”

I was wearing my confidence like armor, but inside, unease was creeping in. I’d thought Ellie would have gotten me out by now, and I couldn’t help but think that something bad had happened. Not having access to the outside world was grating on me. I didn’t have a phone, and I hadn’t seen a soul other than Jace and Kian. I had no idea what was happening on campus or in Little Haven. The police chief must have heard about the power play they did the night they took me. Having that many gang members on campus would have been impossible to hide.

These two hadn’t given me an inch of breathing room. The one time I tried to make it to the door, Kian was on me before I even twisted the knob, and he then threatened to keep me cuffed to the bed if I tried again. Fucking dick. It didn’t help that they installed a key lock on the inside of the door, making it impossible for me to unlock it unless I stole the key from one of them. They searched my dorm two more times and found all of my hiding spots.

But my patience was gone, and I decided if I was still stuck here tonight, then I was leaving. I’d been planning since yesterday, and I just needed them to look away for a minute so I could put it all in place. They were giving me more space since the lock had been installed, but the only room they left me alone in was the bathroom.

“You put a lock on my window and door,” I stated, gripping my coffee cup. “I think you can give me some space.”

Kian scoffed. “If you think you’re trapped, then why have you tried sneaking out of bed twice?”

I glared daggers at him. “Maybe it’s because of the asshole who hogs the bed.”

Kian hadn’t been lying when he told me he was a light sleeper. I couldn’t even turn around in bed without him waking up. I wondered how the hell he even got sleep when the smallest noises woke him up.

A sudden banging on the door had them both dropping their laid-back attitudes. A smile played on my lips, and my heart started to race. Kian was closest to me, and he stood between me and the door while Jace slowly crept up to it so he could peer through the peephole.

“Rynn. Open up.”

Alicia’s voice had shock turning my stomach, and I opened my mouth to respond, only for Kian to press his finger to my lips in warning. He shook his head, his eyes hard as he backed me farther into the room.

“You do not want your friends involved in this,” he said under his breath when the backs of my legs hit the side of the couch.

“Going to threaten my friends now?” I hissed, my eyes flashing with building anger.

“Rynn. If you don’t open this door, I’m calling him. I don’t care if you don’t want him involved. I’m worried about you.”

Jace whipped his head around to look at me, suspicion burning in his gaze. Panic chipped away inside me at the thought that Alicia would call her dad. It wouldn’t be good for Jace or Kian if he got involved. But it wouldn’t be good for me either. I could hear Pratt’s and Tripp’s voices coming through, trying to get her to leave.

“Call who?” Kian asked quietly, moving his hand from my lips to grip my chin. “Who’s she talking about?”

“You think I’m the only one on campus with connections?” I snarked, telling them a slice of the truth. “Only her connections are those of the legal kind. The kind who want to see you two behind bars.”

“Cops?” Kian questioned, his eyes narrowing.

I shrugged, staying silent, and he and Jace exchanged a look. Jace looked through the peephole, and after a few seconds, he pulled out the key and unlocked the door. Alicia burst through the moment it was cracked open, and I tore my face from Kian’s hold, stepping around him to see her.

Alicia gave Jace a scathing glare, swatting his hand off her shoulder when he tried stopping her from crossing the room. If I wasn’t so stressed, I would have been amused by the shock on their faces. In school, Alicia was always bubbly and wore a smile on her face. But she had a feisty side, and right now, it was out in full force.

“Three days,” she said, her eyes falling on me. “I thought you were dead.”
