“Everything I told you last night is true,” he murmured, scooting closer to me. “I can’t get you out of my fucking head. And I don’t want to. I’ve been obsessed with you since the second I met you in Pacific Point.”

“That summer was business,” I forced out hoarsely. “Nothing that lasts can start off tangled in lies.”

I moved to stand, but he grabbed me and hauled me onto his lap. My legs were straddling his hips, and he grasped my waist tightly, keeping me still.

“Kian—”

“Tell me the truth now,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “Everything we shared that summer. Your stories. Your laughs. Your feelings about me. Because when I looked into your eyes, I fucking believed we had something.”

“We did,” I choked out, the desperation in his gaze making it impossible to lie. “Everything I told you was the truth. The only thing I didn’t tell you about was business.”

“I don’t know what’s going to happen once this year is over.” He ran his hand down my cheek. “But I will do whatever I can to keep you, Rynn.”

I didn’t respond, my heart racing at his words. I couldn’t promise him anything, just like with Gage or Jace. He held my stare for a while longer before he let out a resigned sigh.

“I’m not the only one who wants you, I know that.” He gripped my hips again, pulling me closer to him. “You want them too?”

I swallowed thickly. “Yes.”

“You won’t choose?”

“I’m not anyone’s to keep, Kian,” I said firmly, putting my hands on his shoulders. “I’m not making promises to any of you.”

He gave me a playful grin, letting the tension fizzle away. “Promise I can kiss you whenever I want? Without you running away again?”

I laughed lightly, wishing life could always be this easy. Gage was right. When all of this was over, it was going to destroy me when Kian and Jace walked away. And they would. Because once Ellie was finished with taking over Little Haven, their gangs would be nothing. Her plan—our plan—had always been to destroy them. And it was already set in motion.

“Stop thinking,” Kian ordered softly. “I can see it eating away at you. Maybe you need a distraction.”

With heat flaring in his gaze, he suddenly stood up, taking me with him, and I wrapped my legs around him so I wouldn’t fall. Keeping one hand around me, he raised his other arm and tangled his hand in my hair before kissing me. He pushed his tongue inside my mouth, kissing me deeper as he walked across the room. For half a second, I considered telling him what had happened with Jace and Gage earlier, but before I could, he pulled open the door, and I jerked back.

“Where are we going?” I asked breathlessly.

“My room.” He flipped me over his shoulder, and I cried out in surprise. “This time, I don’t want anyone barging in while we fuck.”

I was half laughing, half arguing as he kept me over his shoulder, carrying me down the stairs.

“Kian.”I laughed, hitting his back lightly. “Put me down.”

“Not until we’re in my room.”

He continued to walk down the hallway, ignoring me until we were in front of his dorm door. He flipped me back to my feet, not wasting a second in unlocking his door. I cried out when he wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me closer until my chest hit his. He backed me into his room, his heated stare staying on me.

“Kian. I texted you.”

Tripp’s alarmed voice had Kian freezing. His gaze went over my shoulder, and he released me like I’d burned him. My stomach flipped at his sudden change, and I spun around, my blood turning to ice when I came face to face with the person in my nightmares.

Nick was a couple of feet in front of me, his eyes already roaming my face before dropping to my body. Before I knew what I was doing, I scrambled back, knocking into Kian. He grasped my hips to steady me, and it took everything in me to school my face as I spun around to face him. It might have been years since Nick had seen me, but I hadn’t changed that much since I was fourteen. If he recognized me, I was fucked.

My chest tightened, pure hatred filling me as I heard Nick take a step closer toward me. I promised myself that the next time I was this close to him, I’d kill him. If I had a weapon on me, I didn’t think I’d have the self-control to walk away with him still alive. It was probably a good thing I didn’t have my knife. Nick was Hayes’s second in command. If I murdered him, the peace on campus would shatter. My hands curled into fists, rage building inside me every second I was sharing the same air as him.

“Who is this?” Nick asked from behind me.

“I’ll come back later,” I muttered, barely keeping my voice steady.

Kian quickly stepped to the side, concern etching his face as he stared at me. Apparently, I wasn’t hiding my emotions as well as I thought. Before I moved, a hand caught me above the elbow, yanking me farther into the room. I whirled around, ripping Nick’s hand off me.
