Ryan snickers as he staggers closer. “Why don’t you mind your own fucking business, huh?”

Hudson ignores Ryan and turns to me, reaching out and grabbing my hand. “Let’s go.”

“You don’t know who you’re messing with,” Ryan says as Hudson pulls me along with him and we disappear deeper into the crowds.

My head is swimming and I feel light as we move in between groups of people. I can feel their clammy arms and other exposed limbs brushing against me. The air is thick with heat and I can barely breathe.

I’m not even aware of where we’re going until Hudson pulls me into a small bathroom, before slamming the door shut and turning to me.

His eyes are dark as he backs me into the sink and I can feel his hot breath on my skin.

“You lied to me,” is the first thing he says.

“What?” I ask, completely confused.

“Why didn’t you tell me you’d be at a party?” His voice is low, but I can hear the quivering anger hanging back.

“I wasn’t lying. I just didn’t feel the need to tell you,” I say, glancing up into his green eyes.

Hudson cocks his head slightly as a frown forms between his dark eyebrows. “Were you trying to make me jealous, Parker?”

“What?” A nervous laugh escapes my lips, but then I realise that he’s serious when he stares at me, unsmiling like he’s a different person altogether.

“Do you know how ridiculous you sound right now?”

“I sound ridiculous? I’m not the one lying about going to parties!” his voice rises as he slams his fist against the sink.

I flinch back and my heart pounds against my chest. “Let me go.”

Hudson doesn’t move, but his expression relaxes because even he knows that he’s taken it too far. “I’m sorry.”

I can feel the burn of tears at the back of my eyes, but I keep them down as I press my hands against his chest to push him back. “I have to go home.”

“I’m sorry,” he repeats. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine.”

He lifts his warm hands to cup my face so that I have no other choice but to look at him. “I saw you with him and it made me furious.”

“I wasn’t with him. I was trying to get away from him. He’s my ex. The first night you and I met, I broke up with him,” I explain to Hudson.

A grimace crosses his lips as he presses his forehead against mine. “I saw you two together and I guess-”

“The testosterone took over?” I finish off for him.

“Yeah. Am I forgiven?” he asks.

“I don’t know,” I say, playfully running my finger down his chest.

Did Lex only put vodka in my drink? Because I can already feel the tingling effects of the alcohol. My body feels light and amazing.

His gaze lowers and I can see the lust present in those green depths. “You know, I should punish you for wearing such a provocative dress.”
