“Are we going into the tunnel?” I swallow hard.

“Yes and you’ll be fine,” he says, giving me a quick peck on the lips before helping me with my board. “Come on.”

The Bonfire

Parker

I sit upright on my paddleboard with Hudson beside me as we use the paddles to help navigate us towards the mouth of the tunnel.

The light, crystal turquoise water that is gently lapping against my bare legs is heavenly cool.

“It’s really beautiful out here.” I breathe as we reach the cave.

“It is. I used to come here all the time before,” Hudson says. “It’s calming and it’s a great place to think.”

“Think about what?” I curiously ask.

“Things that you will never know,” he replies as he gives me a side glance.

“Why not?”

“Just,” Hudson says.

“Just,” I repeat. “You have secrets and you’re still such a mystery to me.”

“I’m not a mystery,” Hudson says, staring up at the ragged edges of the mouth of the cave.

“Yet, I still don’t know much about you.”

He shrugs. “What else is there to know? I’m just an ordinary guy with nothing more to me.”

“I’ll stop prying then, but I’ll definitely get through to you one day,” I say.

“Parker’s Cove,” Hudson whispers, reaching out to grab my hand. “I’m going to give it to you.”

“Really?” I laugh. “A cove all for me? I am so lucky.”

“So am I,” Hudson says.

He stays silent and the conversation ends there as we paddle further into the cave, but when it starts to get too dark, we head back out and spend the rest of the day paddling and then wading through the deliciously cool water, before taking short breaks on the sun-baked sand.

We lay together, legs entangled as we gaze at the waves and I run my fingers along the curves of Hudson’s spine. Here in the light, I study his skin and see the light scars that are now faded. I’d ask him about it, but I know better than that.

When evening hits and the sky turns a dark magenta with thin streaks of peach and purple, Hudson and I get out of the water and head back to the roadster.

“Hey, do you want to go to a bonfire?” Hudson asks as he checks his phone. “There’s one on the beach just south of where we went.”

“Right now?” I ask as I place my board into the car. “Aren’t you tired?”

My body is already drained from the day. We’d spent a sufficient amount of time in the water and I’m not sure how much partying I could take at this point.

“Come on, it’ll be fun,” he says coming around to where I stand and then lifting me against him, grabbing my ass as he kisses me. “Say yes,” he whispers against my lips.

“Are you trying to seduce me into saying yes?” I ask as his lips travel lower down my neck.

“Maybe and then you’re going to cave in and say yes,” he mumbles, his breath tickles my skin.
