Slamming the phone on the counter, I’m surprised nothing smashes.

I feel her presence without even turning around. She’s leaning against the entrance to the kitchen, sporting one of my Kings Gym training tops that hangs off her like a dress, with freshly fucked hair and glowing skin.

Her eager eyes assess me.

“What was that about?” she says, stifling a yawn.

She pads her way over to me slowly. I imagine I look as murderous as I feel. Yet she comes to me anyway wrapping her dainty arms around my humongous frame.

“Baby, look. I don’t want to scare you, but something needs to be done about your ex. That was him threatening to force you back to him. Something’s off. I’m starting to sense there is more to his desperation. Even my threats don’t seem to faze him.” I explain, trying to keep my tone calm when deep down inside, I want to unleash the monster and go rip his head off his shoulders.

Sienna tenses against my chest and tries to hide her face away from me. That just ignites the fire inside of me even more.

“Tell me what's going on, Baby.” I mask the rage burning inside as I gently stroke her hair, willing her to open up to me.

She sighs into my chest.

“It’s ok, just talk to me.”

“Don’t worry about me, Keller. You already have a lot on your plate, by the looks of it. You don’t need to be fighting battles for a one-night stand.”

My jaw ticks at her response, at the reminder we agreed to one night. What a shit idea that was.

She starts placing soft kisses on my tense jaw, clearly attempting to avoid the conversation.

“No, we both know that's a bullshit answer. Please, just talk to me. I need to know, Baby.”

Her eyes go wide as I move my head away to stop her attempts to kiss her way out of this. Hurt flashes across her face, followed by a single tear, and her eyes dart to the floor.

“He’s scaring me now, Keller. I caught him cheating on me a few weeks ago. I ran out and never looked back, but since then he’s pretty much started stalking me. Texting, phoning, sending hundreds of flowers to the apartment. He has a drug problem I found out about, which could explain the split personality. I never thought he’d physically hurt me, but look how wrong I was.”

She's sobbing as she speaks the words, just managing to force them out, her hands grabbing the faded marks still visible on her arms.

That reminder just makes me want to kill him, slowly and painfully.

I reach out and cup either side of her head, making her look at me. I mean, really look at me.

“Sienna, I swear I won't let anything happen to you. Let me do some digging. I have some, let's just say, connections, that might be able to help.”

She sighs into my hand.

“I don’t know, Keller. I’m not used to this. I don’t want to be a damsel in distress. I’ve managed to look after myself just fine my whole life.”

“I get that, Princess, but I’m here now. I can take care of you. Iwantto take care of you.Noone is ever going to hurt you again, I swear.” Leaning in, I lick the tear away, the salty liquid burning on my tongue.

“Baby, I fight for a living.” That’s all she needs to know; she doesn’t need to be witness to the true darkness that hides behind the mask. “Sorting Jamie won’t cause me an issue. I promise.”

In fact, I’ll get great pleasure in watching the fear dance in his eyes as I torture him. I can’t fucking wait.

Something tells me I need to assess before I act, drug problem or not. It's unusual for a corporate lawyer to start behaving so deranged over a woman. One he clearly didn’t care about as he stuck his dick into someone else. Fucking idiot.

Grabbing Sienna’s hand, I pull her back down the hall into bed, lifting her side of the duvet as she tucks herself in. She pats my side, inviting me. I chuckle at her. Fuck this woman is something else. She belongs here. Scooting up next to her in bed, she turns her back to me and pushes back against me, her ass rubbing against my dick, which immediately stands to attention.

Great, now I'm going to bed with a hard on.

Feeling her breathing start to even, I press a light kiss to the exposed skin on her neck. “Night Baby,” I whisper. And for the first time that I can remember, I drift off into an easy sleep, no demons to fight tonight.
