One day, this will be our life.

I brush my fingertips along her collarbones, settling my hand loosely around her throat before dropping a kiss to those plump lips.

She smiles against my lips, and it makes my chest tight. I am completely and utterly, head over heels, in love with this woman. I have been since the moment I held her in my arms, watching her battle her addiction. The strength she showed only made me fall deeper for her.

And now, the woman cuddled up to me is the best version of herself. I am so damn proud of her. I just wish she’d tell me why she’s marrying that oaf.

But it doesn’t change the fact she is everything to me. She stole my heart.

She adjusts herself in my lap, her naked ass brushing against my cock, turning to straddle me. Her arms dangle over my shoulders and our faces are just a whisper apart.

“I love you, Rosa.”

Her breath hitches, and I hold my own, a sudden doubt clouding over me. We said it before, in the midst of one of the worst days of my life. I meant it then, but now, even more so.

She runs her hands through my hair, looking into my eyes, my soul even.

“I love you, Luca. I love you so much.” My heart beats twice as fast. “More than anything. Now let me hear you say those words again.”

“I will love you. Forever.” Unshed tears shine in her eyes.

I press my lips against hers, holding her tight, never wanting to let go.

I can’t shake the sadness that consumes me. What if we can’t have our forever? If I can’t find a way out, that keeps her and my family out of danger. I can get her out of her wedding easily. I’ll simply lodge a bullet in his brain. I’ve been itching to do that since her engagement dinner. I saw how hard he grabbed her wrist, and in normal circumstances, that would be enough for me to warrant his murder.

The only reason I haven’t is because I don’t truly know the extent of Rosa’s mess. I’ve explored every possible scenario. Does she owe him money from her addiction? Is she paying her dad’s debts? I’ve had Enzo run his details and nothing–the man is a fucking ghost.

I will find out the truth, one way or another. I’m hoping it’s straight from her mouth.

“I promise you, I will find us a way out of this, Rosa,” I whisper against her hair.

“We both will, Luca. We will fight for this.”

Damn right. I pull back, letting my fingers wrap around my favorite place, her neck.

“Can you tell me why you’re marrying him?”

She closes her eyes and shakes her head.

“I promise you, when our moment appears, when you’re free of Maria, when no one is in danger, I will tell you the truth. I just need you to trust me. I have it covered. I just need you to be patient.”

“Patience isn’t really my thing, baby.”

She scrunches up her nose. “I know. Can you try, for me?”

I crack my neck to the side, trying to relieve some of the pressure building. Every time I see his face, I want to slam my fist into his jaw. I don’t know how much longer I can keep calm.

“Has he touched you?”

Her throat bobs against my palm. “No. I promise, only ever you.”

She acts like she wants to say more, but snaps her mouth shut.

“Rosa.”

I fear she’s holding back because she doesn’t know how I’ll react.

“Can we drop it, please? We have a whole night together, and I really want to make the most of it.” She pouts, batting her lashes at me.
