“My name is Kassia.” Not wanting to offend her, I smiled to soften my words.

“Of yes, of course,” she said. “Kassia. I do apologize. However, I’m not sure a human will be able to satisfy, so we’ll test you.”

“No,” I barked. “Um . . .” I shot Jarum a panicked look. They weren’t going to make him prove his cock would fit, were they? “I think we should do that alone, not in front of your parents.”

He burst into laughter, and his parents joined in.

I’d been abducted by aliens, and they weren’t the exciting, probing kind.

Jarum’s arms went around me, holding me close, and he kissed my cheek. “You don’t think we’re going to mate in front of my parents, do you?”

“What else am I supposed to think?”

Roktas laughed, though kindly. Drunella appeared neutral. Judging, perhaps. This could also be her resting orc face.

“Why would you think we’d wish to observe something like that?” she asked.

Maybe because they kept talking about it.

I just smiled.

She huffed. “Such a thing will be done during your own time and please, do not share when you do it.”

Roktas grinned. “Only share when you’re going to present us with orclings.”

“We haven’t decided about children yet,” I said.

“No orclings?” Drunella roared. She tapped Jarum’s arm. “We can’t rely solely on your brother for grandorclings.”

“Last I knew, Brogis wasn’t mated,” Jarum said.

“We’re trying to persuade him to select a female from one of the fine families in the area.”

“I assume he’s resisting.”

“He’ll give in eventually,” Roktas said.

“I doubt it,” Jarum whispered.

“As for the testing,” Roktas said, “it’s just a small, traditional orc thing. Let’s get the first one over with, shall we? Since we don’t want to overwhelm you, we’ll split them up and give you the second test after the tournament tomorrow.”

He strode down the hall with Drunella, her arm linked through his.

“Your brother will be here for dinner soon, Jarum,” his mother said over her shoulder.

“I’m a little nervous about this test,” I whispered to him. Please, let it be something easy like basic addition or naming all the continents on the surface of the planet.

“Tests vary,” Jarum said. “But you’ll be able to do whatever they ask. I promise.” He released me from his embrace and lifted Diesel, handing him to an orc woman coming out of one of the parlors. “Would you please place Kassia’s pet in our rooms?”

“He’ll be safe there?” I worried my lower lip with my teeth as the staff member took Diesel up the stairs.

“He will. I promise.” He took my hand, urging me down the hall behind his parents.

We walked past closed doors, and I was grateful to see that, other than being huge, his family home wasn’t much different from what I’d expect in human construction. The only difference was the doors were built to accommodate seven-foot-tall orcs.

We left the back of the building and stepped out onto a wide stone deck and paused.

“Pretty.” I took in the broad grassy area beyond the deck, peppered with numerous gardens overflowing with flowers, heavy woods behind, and a fountain in the middle of the back lawn.
