She scurried away from the water, returning to my side. “What sort of danger are you talking about?”

“Nothing you need to be concerned about.” Why name it when it would frighten her? Taking her hand and holding her shoes, I led her along the shore to the boat I’d hidden underneath the broad leaves of a hickabee tree the last time I was here.

Lifting her, I gently placed her in the craft, then joined her. It rocked, and she sat on a bench, smiling up at me. Her face was so pretty in the soft light, and I ached to be with her, to give into the mating heat brewing inside me. We didn’t have time to be together until my heat waned, but one night should be enough to dull my appetite until we could return home and be together always.

I sat and engaged the drive stick, taking the craft quickly across the water. It bumped along the waves, and we soon arrived at the small dock I’d built when I commandeered this place as my own. I’d even filed with the city for ownership, and it was all mine. No one else could enter the tiny paradise I’d created.

I quickly secured the craft to the dock.

Kassia peered around. “Such a lovely place. It’s quiet. Peaceful.”

“Let’s make some noise, then, shall we?” I scooped her up in my arms and stepped onto the dock.

“Yes, please,” she said, and I could feel her smile.

“Do you want to scream out your pleasure, mate?” I growled, heat searing through my veins.

Her arms linked around my shoulders. “Hell, yeah.”

When I reached the small meadow in the middle of the island, I lowered her to her feet. She looked around, taking in the vines trailing around the perimeter, each covered with pink flowers, plus the purple blossoms spotting the open area. I’d constructed a small building, placing it in the shade of one of the larger trees. “It’s gorgeous here.”

“Let me show you where I spent a lot of time when I was younger.” I took her hand and led her over to the small building, unlocking the exterior door and taking her inside. “I was an ambitious youth.”

She snorted, staring at the enormous bed. “I’d say so.”

“You’re the only person I’ve brought here.” I wouldn’t want her to think I showed this place to anyone other than the person holding my heart in her delicate hands.

I crossed the room, passing the sole window, and opened the trunk, removing the bedding packed with sachets of herbs to keep insects away. We made the bed together.

Staring across the smooth surface at my lovely mate, I struggled to suppress my mating heat. Just as with our meal, I wanted to be patient with her. “Would you like something to eat?”

“You have food here?”

“Not within the building, but at this time of year, I can pick fruit. I can fish in the lake and cook the meat over a fire.” I strode to the tiny kitchen and cranked the water pump powered by tiny light-absorbing panels on the roof. “And we have endless clean water to drink.”

“It’s like camping only comfier. As for being hungry, all I want is you, Jarum. You.”

“I’m yours, my love, my heart.” Rounding the bed, I stopped in front of her.

Looking into her eyes made my heart race. She was so beautiful standing there with the muted lights from the window behind her. I traced my fingertips down her arms, savoring her soft skin.

“You’re precious to me,” I said, stroking her. “My world means nothing unless you’re with me.”

“Jarum,” she breathed, her lower lip trembling. “That’s so sweet. I’m going to cry.”

“No tears. Now is for us, for showing each other how much we care.” I stroked the solitary tear from her cheek.

Stepping closer to her, I sucked in her sweet scent. She smiled, and my heart leaped. I kissed her, and when our lips met, a wave of emotion washed over me. She was mine, and I belonged to her.

Moaning, she pressed herself against me.

I wanted her badly. I ran my hands down her back, feeling the curves of her body. She groaned softly, pressing her lips hard against mine.

Our tongues wove together, joining like we’d do soon.

Feverish, we tugged at each other’s clothing, half-laughing because it was hard to maintain our kiss and strip.

She pulled back and smiled.
