“A true tragedy. Cats are independent and can be a lot of fun, but I’m a dog person. Of course, if you wanted a pet, you could adopt a more unusual one, like a rat or a hamster.”

I scooped Diesel up to carry him on my shoulder, though I kept a hand on his side. My shoulders were broad enough that Diesel could sit or stand, and he seemed to love riding there.

“He’s going to want to ride on me like that one of these days,” she said with a laugh.

“He’s special. I’m glad you brought him with us.”

Diesel woofed, then released a high-pitched howl as if he agreed.

We reached the top of the hill and paused while orcs dressed in a variety of clothing wove around us. Some wore jeans and shirts while others had dressed in the traditional orc garb of short leather skirts, their chests bare.

Kassia reached up to link her arm through mine. “How far below the entrance is the orc kingdom?”

“Very far down.”

We stepped through the square, two-story entrance, into a long, equally square tunnel.

“Machine cut?” She ran her fingertips along the smooth wall and tipped her head back to gawk at the flat ceiling.

“The initial tunnel was much smaller. We widened it with equipment to allow my people to come and go easily. Ahead, we’ll take transport down to the enormous cavern housing the main section of the kingdom. You’ll be amazed when you see the city I grew up in.”

“How many orcs live there?” she asked.

“Almost ten thousand.”

“Wow.”

A thousand had emerged from the ground, joining human society, but they did it over a period of time to make it less noticeable.

“I can’t imagine seeing so many orcs in one place,” she said.

I put Diesel down, holding his leash. He scampered beside us as we walked through the tunnel slowly sloping downhill. Tiny blue creatures coated the ceiling, giving off just enough light to make travel easy. Gravel crunched underfoot.

When we reached a four-way intersection, we stopped. Guards armed with clubs and swords stood in clusters nearby, watching us and everyone else moving through this section of the cave system.

“Guns?” one of them asked, his gaze focused on Kassia.

“None,” I said.

He grunted and directed his steady gaze on someone else.

“This way.” I urged her forward. “We’ll take transport ahead.”

“No guns allowed in the kingdom, I assume,” she said.

“Yup.”

At the base of the long slope, we stopped, waiting in line behind other orcs.

“Our transport vehicles resemble cars though they’re more boxy,” I said.

“We’ll ride together?”

I gave her a quick hug, savoring how amazing she felt in my arms. “I wouldn’t travel any other way.”

“We can snuggle.” She winked, a gesture that took me some time to get used to. At first, I thought the person doing it had something in their eye. Now when Kassia did it, it sent a thrill through me, centering in my cock.

When it was our turn, I led her over to one of the empty vehicles and pushed a button on the side. It split across the top, each side curling in beneath the metal plates secured to the tracks.
