“I’ll fight you,” I warn and my voice is so weak he probably confused it for the wind. “Don’t come any closer.”

He stops dead in his tracks, frowning before his eyes go to my hips and he ignores the warning.

“Such bountiful hips,” he rasps, his eyes heavy with fascination. I throw a punch but he clasps my fist in his gigantic palm, swallowing it right up just like he’ll swallow me. “And such small fists.”

Shame floods me. He thinks I’m weak. Everybody always think Valkyries are weak.

“Then how about this!” I curve my elbow, shooting out with my other fist in an attempt to whack him in the jaw, but he grabs it mid-air and my knees go weak. “No please, don’t h...hurt me...”

“Hurt you?” Confusion twists his handsome, devilish features. He lifts my hand to his face and gives my knuckles a kiss, causing a current to rip between my legs and all the way up to my skull. “I could never,” he whispers and I don’t know what to make of this.

Can I trust him?

“B...but I trespassed,” I stutter, then wonder why the heck I have to remind him. “Aren’t you going to do something about it?”

He should be tearing me in pieces, not kiss my hand like an old-fashioned gentleman.

“I am,” he nods and anxiety floods me. “I’m keeping you.” Flaring out with his hands, he adds, “This is my lake and those who trespass are mine to do with whatever I please. You belong to me now.”

****

I gawk. Shit! Time to run but I seem to have grown roots. His smell is intoxicating, his voice a dark rumble and it licks like fire over my skin. I should scream that I refuse to become his captive but instead I wet my lips because I’m...flattered. Flattered that he didn’t eat me.

There’s something wrong with me, but I already knew that.

The man turns his back to me and my eyes zoom in on the tattoo of a dragon, wrapping itself around a coat of arms.

A nervous flutter tickles my throat. Oh shit... He’s not just a dragon; he’s a Draugar which means he comes from a royal bloodline. And those cliffs...they probably stash a ton of gold.

So, he’s ultra-hot, ultra-rich and royalty. Isn’t it illegal to be a triple threat?

It should be, considering I’m no threat at all.

I gulp when he nods at me to follow. He walks ahead and I tell myself to stop staring at the way his muscles splay. The other Valkyries always tell me I’m a little too obsessed with the male form, and I avert my gaze when my cheeks heat.

We pass through an opening in the cliff, entering a cave and its pitch black.

“I can’t see anything...” I don’t even finish the sentence, before a bolt of fire erupts. At first I freak out, then realize it’s coming from the dragon’s mouth. His jaw is wide, his muscles tense and the fire overwhelms the dark, lighting up the torches on either side of the cave wall.

Gulping, I breathe. “T...thank you.”

He gives a curt nod and we continue down the cave, until we end up by a wooden door. It leads to a spiral staircase, with a never-ending amount of steps. Once they finally come to a stop, the man opens up another door and I linger on the threshold.

Wow...think I’ve just stepped into the cover of an interior magazine.

The walls are a soft grey but the glittery lights make them look almost silver. And the floors, they’re a stunning marble inlay, even more reflective than the decorative mirrors. Everything seems to have been carefully selected as if only the best is good enough for the owner. It creates such a spectacular picture, that I have to push my jaw back into place as I gawk upon the grand chandelier.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the place is sparkling clean. Good. Valkyries hate messiness.

“What’s your name?” the man asks and I flinch, because I forgot about him for a second.

“Kylie:”

“I’m Craven,” he rasps.

Fitting name for a captor... I rub my hands down my arms and I wouldn’t mind taking a hot shower. Slowly, I walk farther into the manor but turn my head to the side when I notice Craven following like a shadow. He doesn’t say anything but I can feel his eyes on me.

They burn...no but really, as in theyactuallyburn.
