“I’ll hold you to that, young lady,” he growls, and with that, we head over to the dining table just as the butler enters with the first course. It’s a salmon tartare with a side salad of arugula, and freshly baked bread rolls. But when I sit down, I notice something unique about the bread roll.

“A croissant?” I gasp, my mouth watering.

“Yep,” replies Logan, pairing a bite of arugula with his pastry. “Who the hell wants to eat salad with regular bread rolls? I thought you might like this more.”

I giggle.

“Good idea, because I do like it,” I giggle before I dig in. “Goodness, maybe we should just start with dessert then. Why save it for last?”

Logan raises a black brow at me.

“Why indeed?” he chuckles, and for a few moments we simply enjoy the meal. When I look up, I see my man watching me again.

“What?” I smile, dabbing my lips discreetly with a napkin. “Do I have something on my mouth?” But Logan simply smiles and goes back to his own meal.

“Are you enjoying your classes?” he asks with interest.

“Oh, yes,” I reply. “Very much.”

“And do you like Fairlawn College?” he asks.

“I do,” I smile beatifically. “It’s close so it’s convenient, and my professors are wonderful too.”

Logan nods thoughtfully.

“Yes, I can see how that would be an advantage. But it’s a community college, honey. Are you okay with that? After all, if you’re interested,” he says in an idle tone, “I can help you get into a real college. Ivy League, even. Just say the word because I know some people, and I can make some calls.”

Knowing Logan’s powerful position, that probably means that I’ll be admitted to Harvard by next week. But I bite my lip with hesitation.

“Wow. Thank you so much for offering, but honestly, I don’t really see myself as an Ivy League girl. Is that bad?”

Logan’s black brow comes up.

“No, not necessarily. Why?”

I shrug, blushing a bit.

“Well, you know everyone says that education is the path to success, and everyone and their mother wants to attend an Ivy League school. But…”

“But what?” Logan prompts, his blue eyes curious.

I bite my lip again.

“Well, I think community college is more my style. You know, small classes, people I like, the local aspect. Besides, this way I get to see you all the time!” Logan nods slowly.

“That’s true. I hadn’t thought about that,” he says in a low tone. “Actually, I hadn’t thought much about the issue at all because I figured everyone wanted Harvard. But if Fairlawn makes you happy, then Fairlawn Community College it is. The Ivy League has nothing on the Falcons.” We smile at each other and continue enjoying our meal. But then my handsome lover looks up again.

“By the way, how’s your mom?” he asks with a one-sided smile. I roll my eyes

“It’s our special evening and you want to talk about Lily?” I laugh. He shrugs.

“I just want to make sure she’s happy and comfortable,” he replies with a shrug. “She’s your mother, and I want whatever makes you happy, honey.”

I’m touched by his concern.

“Lily’s doing well,” I reply thoughtfully. “Though I haven’t seen much of her lately. She seems to be keeping busy with enjoying her life here. You know that she’s active, right? She reads a lot, and she’s always immersed in at least three reality TV shows. I think the girls even have a card game going, although don’t tell anyone I told you.”

My man merely throws his head back and laughs.
