“Deal.” She replied and Dante grinned.

“Good. Let no one say that Dante Mendez doesn’t accept a challenge and can handle anything.” He said, looking at me and Theo with a wicked grin and we both sighed.

“If we end up with a child like him, I don’t think we will survive,” I whispered to Theo and he nodded as we watched Dante pick Serena up and take her upstairs, saying he was claiming his prize.

“The only karma that man has coming for him will be in the form of a tiny human worse than him. We all know that the chance of it being his is way higher. He is making sure of that.” Theo said as Serena looked over Dante’s shoulder.

“Are you coming?” She asked and we both looked at each other for a second before grinning.

“Yes.” We said in unison, not willing to miss an opportunity to fuck our girl.

Following them up the stairs with Theo’s hand at the small of my back, I said a little prayer to whoever was listening in thanks for the life I had.

Liam – present time

Iwalkedthroughthestation to my office, biting back the anger that had been building slowly. Clara wasn’t far behind me and it was taking everything I had not to lash out at the woman.

I was no stranger to Benjamin’s past. Every cop knew about the Madden case and how she was responsible for the death of his family.

Regardless of where people fell in the approval of what happened, I personally despised the woman. I had met her a few times when I was a rookie and there was an arrogance about her that I couldn’t stand.

She came from money and had a family that could pull strings. Her father’s legacy was a good cop who retired with no open cases to his name and did good for society.

Her mother's side of the family was the wealth and manipulation that came with it. Clara took after her mother and the way she was smiling as we walked through my station told me she had only gotten worse over the years.

“Get in my office.” I snarled and she rolled her eyes. I may be the chief of police now and not required to be on the ground, but I didn’t want to run the precinct the way my predecessor had. I wanted them to remember I had spent my time in the trenches with them and still would when needed.

My relationship with the Mendez family was still mostly kept quiet. There were a few who knew about my connection to Serena and the others but the crime families kept themselves clean enough that we all looked the other way.

As long as no one got personally hurt and our names were kept clean, it didn’t matter. I wasn’t the first to have connections to crime families and I certainly wouldn’t be the last.

“Why are you here Clara?” I said as I slammed the door shut behind her. She looked around my office with a scrunched nose before looking at me with a bland expression.

“To do my job.” She said and I narrowed my eyes.

“No. I checked. You weren’t on this case until recently and you weren’t the detective who was originally going to be sent here. You requested it as soon as the word was sent. So I will ask again. Why are you here?” I sat at my desk as she watched me. I had no intention of letting her feel like she had the upper hand.

“I have my reasons.” She said and I glared at her.

“If you cause trouble for the Madden family, I will personally haul your ass back to Hellier Beach,” I said softly and she grinned.

“Oh, Officer Walker. I see you are still riding that edge of moral grounds. I am here to do a job. That’s all. Now if you will excuse me, I have a call to make.” She strode out of my office, and I sighed.

If Benjamin spiraled because of her presence, the rest of the families would back him and that could lead to a huge problem for me.

I had to hope that we would get this case cleared up quickly, it was a seemingly small problem of a new gang trying to make themselves known, though, with her presence, I couldn’t shake the feeling there was something more to this.

I opened my emails, saw the huge number of new emails, and groaned. I was about to close them and deal with them later when the one at the top of the inbox caught my eye.

It said it was from an unknown. I opened it and sat back with surprise and the beginnings of a tension headache.

Mr Walker.

It has come to our attention that the gang known as Satan’s Serpents has decided to expand into Sinclair Bay under the secondary branch of the Hydras.

Please be aware that they are backed by a power bigger than you know and the sole purpose for them is to create discord amongst the Families.
