Despite the excruciating burn, I knew this wasn’t just silver.

I grounded myself, digging my knees into the floor, feeling the rough carpet through my jeans. I’d walked into a trap. I was so stupid. I should have known Sal would play dirty.

Slowly air started to filter into my lungs, tiny wisps that brought clarity back to me.

It took all my effort to stay upright on my knees. Sal lowered himself to eye level, grinning, his white teeth gleaming, no fangs to be seen. “You can let Kane Duke know that the asset has been collared.”

The asset?

My mind reeled. Pain seared through my body all over again, pulsing from my neck down to my toes. I tried to claw at the collar, but it burned my fingers, pain lancing to the bone.

I’m the asset.

Kane Duke had paid for me.

I’m going to kill them all.
