“I’m fine,” she replied, knowing that she really wasn’t. “I’ll be right down. I want to clean up first.”

“No clothes,” Luis said.

She’d agreed to being naked.

“We’ll get started on lunch,” Trevor replied.

“I’m making dinner,” she said.

They nodded and walked out.

It was the first time they had really left her alone and she curled into a ball. What was she doing? Maybe she should pack her bags and leave. Because already, she could feel herself falling for these two men. And they all promised no attachments.

And yet, she loved being with them. They were so good to her. So kind, thoughtful, and they took care of her. They looked out for her and made certain she was getting what she desired.

Glancing around the bedroom, she knew that it was going to be hard to leave on Saturday morning, but she had no choice. It would take her almost all day to fly back to New York and then on Monday, she had to show up to work.

Her life was in the Big Apple. Their lives were here in Texas, and there was a lot of country between them.

After crawling off the bed, she went into the bathroom and cleaned up. Tears were in her eyes and she quickly wiped them away. No tears. No regrets. No thinking of what-if.

While she was here, she was going to enjoy her time with her men. She had to live for today because tomorrow this would only be a memory.

Pasting a smile onto her face, she went downstairs. In the kitchen, she was surprised to see Luis was alone.

“Where’s Trevor?”

He shook his head. “He had to run out to the lab and give the main office some numbers from his last experiment. Something about they didn’t get the same results as he had. He’s a freaking genius and he gets quite upset when someone botches his inventions or doesn’t do what he tells them.”

She gave a chuckle. She could see that in a man like Trevor. The man was so damn intelligent.

“What do you want me to do to help?”

“Nothing,” he said. “You get started on the dinner you want to make us. I’m going to fix us a late brunch and then we’ll be good until tonight.”

“I need a large kettle pot,” she said.

He reached into the cabinet and handed one to her, but somehow when they went to transfer it from his hands to hers, she dropped it.

The pan clattered onto the tile floor, the sound loud and ringing throughout the room.

Reaching down to pick it up, she heard a strange noise. It was almost like a strangled cry. Standing, she whirled around to see Luis in a crouched position, his hands over his head.

“Get down,” he screamed. “Incoming. Get me the damn command base on the radio transmitter. They’ve got us pinned down. Tell them to send in helicopters. Now, damn it, now.”

She reached over and ran her hand down his arm. “Luis, it’s Stacy. You’re here. You’re home.”

“The fuck I am,” he cried. “Get down, soldier, or you’re going to die. John help save this rookie.”

She crouched down beside him, not knowing what to do. “You’re home in Texas. You’re safe. You’re on the ranch with me and Trevor.”

His emerald eyes were glazed as they stared at her. His body was tense and she could tell he was in that horrible place where his life was in danger. How did she bring him home?

“Luis, come back to me,” she said, not knowing what to do or say, only that she needed him to be all right. “Luis.”

She raised her voice somehow hoping that would penetrate his delusion.

Just then the back door opened and Trevor walked in.
