I walked over to Selena, who was talking to one of her coworkers. When she saw me approach, she excused herself and met me halfway. She looked dazzling in a cream cocktail dress that hugged her body in all the right places, causing a stir among the men in this room. I didn’t know any of these people, but seeing Selena so at ease and happy with them made me like them.

Selena smiled at me, her eyes moving in the direction I had come from. It didn’t take her long to connect my smile and Nate’s heated gaze. “No sex in my room, but you can take the guest room if you want.”

I blushed. “That’s okay. I think you should have the honor of christening your house first.”

“Oh, I did,” she winked while sipping her flute. “Three times last night and once this morning.”

“Oh, my gosh!” I poked her side. “Who? Don’t tell me it was Xander?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know?”

“Umm, yes. That’s why I’m asking.” My eyes moved to Xander, who had just turned the corner to walk into the living room. He dressed similarly to Nate but didn’t hold the same wow factor that Nate did for me. “Do you like him, Lena?”

She lifted her shoulder in a slight shrug. “Like is such a strong word. Why don’t we just say that I enjoy his company.”

Selena was one of those people who hated being vulnerable or talking about her feelings. She preferred not to have emotions attached to anything. That included men most of all. She had always been that way, and I had no idea why.

“I swear his eyes move everywhere you are. I’m trying to decide if it’s creepy or weird.”

Standing in the corner of the room, looking so delicious, was Nate and Xander beside him. They were both looking in our direction, and Xander looked at my best friend like he wanted to devour her. But there was also something else in his eyes. Something a little more, and I was unsure if Selena had caught on to it.

He liked her. I had seen the eyes of a man falling, and those were the eyes he was giving her.

“Oh look, Nate's coming over here.” She nudged me. “I bet you ten bucks he will take you home right now.”

Just as she said, Nate walked over to me. His eyes held mine the entire time. I even had to will my heart rate down. It felt like it wanted to jump right out of my chest.

“I think this is my cue to exit the vicinity.” She slid away just as Nate came to a grinding halt. “Good luck.”

Nate snaked his arm around my waist and pulled me flush against him. His hard chiseled chest was warm beneath my palms, and I could feel his heart's slow and steady beating.

At least one of us was calm.

“Let’s get out of here.”

“So soon?”

He huffed, the tip of his lips tilting upward ever so slightly. He leaned in, his lips brushing my scorching skin. “You have ten minutes to say your goodbyes, and I’m taking you home. You take any more time than that, Amelia, and I will have to throw you over my shoulder and slap that perky little ass of yours.”

My body buzzed with excitement. Part of me wanted to take the extra time and force him to do something. As weird as that sounded, I wanted him to handle me like a flour sack.

His lips pressed against my skin, drawing me out of my thoughts. “Come now, baby. Let me take you home.”

“Okay.” my spine shivered as I tried to keep myself from entirely losing it.

When he pulled away, his eyes were a darker shade of green. The hunger in his eyes was potent, but I could see him holding himself back. This man wanted me, and if the moistness in the middle of my legs was saying anything, I wanted him to.

“Let’s go home,” he encouraged.

I nodded wordlessly.

“Good girl. Now say goodbye to your friend and meet me outside.”

He took a few steps back, making me miss his warmth over me again. “Ten minutes starts now, Amelia.”

I didn’t know what awaited me with this man, but I was excited to find out.
