“This is so nice,” his dad murmurs. “Just me and my family…and you.”

I beam as Tomas reaches out and nudges my arm. A mouthedthank youis on his lips. Those fucking lips. I stare at them for far too long, wishing for something I can’t have.

I need to remember that.

I can’t have him. Never.

Never ever.

“Who wants to do some limbo?” Tabitha shouts and everyone groans except Salvino.

“Me. I’m in,” he says and then makes his mustache twitch once more.

And I swear, I want to marry Tomas just so I can be a part of his family forever.

“Well, your family is lovely,”I say as Tomas pulls up to the moms’ house and parks in the driveway. “I didn’t think your dad could bend that much, but apparently I was wrong.”

“Yeah, he did some stuff in the circus when he was a teen. He’s still pretty flexible.”

“I’m sorry. What?” I ask, my eyes wide. “The circus?”

“Yeah, he did it for a while, kind of his free spirit form of rebellion.”

“But he’s so slow!” I proclaim, and Tomas chuckles.

“Yeah, he is, but apparently he did alright for himself back then. I mean, you saw what he could do.”

I did. I swear that man bent over backward as slow as a twig bending under pressure, and I was sure he would fall over, but he kept his balance and managed to put us all to shame.

Even me, who bends over for a living couldn’t contend with him.

I’m fucking in awe.

“They loved you. Even Tarak was a little starstruck.”

I peer over at Tomas and bite my bottom lip. His eyes swivel down to it, and I feel my breath constrict in my lungs. I had one too many drinks, and the limbo went to my head. There is no way he’s looking at me like I think he’s looking at me.

“Yeah, he is very pretty.”

Tomas’s eyes flash to mine and then they glance away.

“Yeah, apparently he’s the better-looking one.”

I roll my eyes and then slug his shoulder. “Knock it off, Tomas. We both know you’re fishing for compliments.”

“I’m not,” he says, and then smiles softly. “One of my girlfriends left me for him. He was fifteen at the time.”

“Well, that’s creepy.”

“It was. A bit.”

We stare at each other, and I run a hand through my hair. Tomas clears his throat and looks away once more and says, “Well, either way, it was fun. For real. You should come again. They’ll miss you if you don’t.”

“Oh, I will. There’s no getting rid of me now.”

Tomas peeks over at me and then pats the steering wheel. I’ve overstayed my welcome. I need to get out, but before I can, he’s jogging to the other side of the car and opening the door for me.
