“I love farmer’s markets. Taste this honey, babe.”

He started calling me babe a while ago. I fucking love it.

I open my mouth, and he slides the piece of cheese inside, the honey exploding on my tongue. Everything about Kansas is boring except this goddamn honey!

“I love it, oh my god.”

“You like it?” Jimbob asks. “I’m thinking about getting some bees. Making my own.”

“You so should. Should get some honey to go with that jam.”

Jimbob flushes and pets the kitty’s head as it starts to purr.

“Ah, well you know what, Tomas? We should just get married here.”

I point to a small church in the distance, and Tomas shakes his head.

“No way. You know my mom and your mom have it all planned out.”

I sigh and then shake my head. “Fine. Fine. A wedding in California. I guess I can wait.”

“You can. It’s only two months away. And then it’s you and me, baby.”

“You and me,” I repeat.

And then we smile at each other.

Damon and Tomas.

Tomas and Damon.

Him. Me. Us.
