"What do you want to do after we look at the property?"

"Probably hunt for another hotel."

"Kimberly, we both know you won't find anything. I think the poor girl was just afraid we'd both lash out at her if she didn’t offer to help. It's not her fault."

"No, I know that. I was just thinking, you know, maybe they can call in some favor or something."

"Decided to suddenly become an optimist?"

She grinned. "Oh yeah. So, walk me through the investment and the time it will take us to break even."

"I'm going to present all of that to you and Travis and Reese."

"I need inside information." She winked at me. "Besides, the way to convince Travis is to convince me first."

"Is that so?"

"Yep. I'm then going to convince Reese, and together we'll win over Travis. Trust me, it's much easier than trying to get all of us on board at the same time. We'll drive you nuts in that meeting."

"I can actually see that happening."

I already had ballpark figures in mind. I’d spent the entire day yesterday doubling down on calculating everything as exactly as possible.

As I shared my results with her, she whistled loudly. "That’s more than I was expecting. And you're sure of the break-even? That seems terribly optimistic."

"What do you know about me?"

She snorted. "That's right, the eternal grump, but it is helpful for a business plan. Let's see this property, then."

As we walked, I tried to put the puzzle together of who was Kimberly Maxwell. I was still missing a few essential pieces, and I was going to get them soon. I was certain of that.

I had no idea when I'd decided that I wanted to get to know Kimberly intimately, but it was exactly what I needed. And what she needed too.
