"How's your day? Is the new boss living up to his reputation?"

I'd shared with my brother everyone’s comments about Colton, so he knew what I was up against.

"You know, I think he actually is. Though I only saw him for like two hot minutes, so I don't want to draw a conclusion yet."

"Your first hunch is usually right," Alex said. "You’re very good at reading people."

"I know, but I don't want to be hasty. Although, he does have atrocious manners."

"You'll let me know if you want me to kick anyone's ass, right?"

"Oh yeah, sure." I laughed it off, although the crazy thing about Alex was that he completely meant it. I had no doubt that if I told him, or Dean, that someone was giving me a hard time, they’d kick their ass, even if it would get me fired. It was just how they were. No one messed with their little sister. I loved that growing up. I still did.

I got up from the bench, though I was going to stay outside for a few more minutes.

"Did you check on Mom and Dad recently?" I asked.

"I spoke to them yesterday.”

"Are they still in Copenhagen?"

"No, they moved on to Stockholm."

"Oh, okay." I was having a hard time keeping track of where they were these days. My parents were both painters and had a gallery tour of sorts going on in Europe. I was immensely happy for them. They were both very talented, and I was ecstatic that the world had finally rewarded them for it. It took many years of hard work, but they'd made it and now were invited to show in galleries around the world.

"Want to meet up tonight and talk about the bad-mannered CEO?" he asked.

"You know, let’s do that, though I'm not sure if I can manage it today. It's my first week here, and I'm probably going to stay up late to familiarize myself with everything."

"Sure. Let me know when."

The thing about growing up with two brothers was that I related far easier to guys than to women. My best friend was also a guy. Sometimes I missed having a female BFF. Last time I had something like that was in college. But I had my brothers, so I really didn't have too much time for other friends besides Tom, who I hadn’t seen in ages.

The afternoon went by the same way as the morning. I’d asked Colton’s team to prep a PowerPoint for me, summarizing the ongoing projects so I was on top of everything. I guess I’d have to tackle the man himself, though, in order to get him to meet with me.

I was determined to make Colton Whitley like me—whether he wanted to or not.
