"Okay then, we should go," I said.

Zoey immediately rose from the bed. "It was nice seeing you again, Jeannie."

"Don't be silly. Seeing me on a hospital bed can't be a highlight, but don't worry. I'll get better in no time, and then I'll have you all over to our house."

That was going to be catered, and I wasn't going to take no for an answer. But I wasn't going to bring it up now.

We stepped outside into the corridor. Grandfather and Leo had already left. Maddox and Nick were talking to Gabe, who must have just arrived. He looked up at me, and then his eyes fell on Zoey. Judging by his grin, he knew who she was.

"Well, well, what do we have here?" he asked.

"Gabe, this is Zoey. Zoey, this is my youngest brother and a pain in the ass."

"He took the words right out of my mouth," Gabe said, winking at her. “I was going to use the exact same introduction.”

Zoey laughed. "Do you want to go see your grandmother?" she asked. “Better hurry because I think she's going to nap soon. She seemed a bit tired."

"Sure," Gabe said. His smile fell. "How is she?"

"She's good," I assured him. "Just tired."

"Okay, good. By the way, our brothers will arrive soon."

After he left, I wanted to ask Nick what he'd found out from the doc, but Maddox said, "Did you by any chance look at that email I sent you a few weeks ago?"

Zoey cleared her throat. "I saw a coffee machine downstairs. I'm going to make myself one. Colton, you'll let me know when we’re ready to go?"

"Sure," I said. Only after she left did I realize she'd done it on purpose to give us privacy.

“Yes, I read it," I told Maddox. "Wanted to ignore it and delete it.”

He nodded. "I thought about doing the same. But then I figured if he didn't hear from us, he might ask our grandparents."

Fuck, that had never occurred to me.

"Do they know about it?" I asked, putting my hands in my pockets.

Maddox cocked a brow. "I'm not an imbecile. Of course not. I didn’t forward them the email.”

"No, but there are other ways they could find out," Nick said. "Don't get your panties in a twist, brother." His tone was mocking.

"Let's meet up at my office one evening," I said. Maddox looked stunned. This was my way of waving the white flag. I'd been at odds with them for years, and I was man enough to admit there was no reason for it. Besides, we needed to talk about this. "I'll send you all a calendar invite."

Nick burst out laughing, then said, "Wait, you're serious?"

I frowned. "How else are we supposed to find time?"

"You can just text us," Nick said slowly, like I was being dumb on purpose. "I'll make a WhatsApp group," he continued and immediately took out his phone. "Who knows how much time we have before you change your mind and decide not to be cooperative."

He wasn't completely wrong.

"I think we should do something for our grandparents too," I added.

Maddox nodded. "Yeah, I was thinking about that. But for now, I don't think there's a reason for you to stay here. Go entertain that knockout you've got waiting for you at the coffee station. We've got this."

"I want to talk to the doctor too," I said.

"Don't," Nick replied. "He got annoyed when Gabe and Maddox tried to talk to him and said he'd only speak with us when he had something new."
