“Trying those lines out on me again, college boy?” She giggles.

“Really, Veronica Ann Hester. You’re the most interesting thing about this trip. Why you would actually be hanging out with this crowd is the mystery to me. I know it can’t be because you’re hooking up with my asshole cousin. You seem way smarter than that.” I really want confirmation that she’s not going to fall for my creepy cousin’s lines.

She twirls a red curl in her fingers and gives me a measuring look. She snorts and I can’t help but laugh. I love that she never hides how she feels.

“I can absolutely guarantee that there’s nothing going on with your cousin. He’s a jerk. I’m pretty sure he’s in bed up there with the head cheerleader still wrapped around him.”

I grin. Smart girl. Never fall for the assholes. And yes, that might include me, but it doesn’t stop me from wanting to be near her.

“Let me see what you’re reading. Is that the same book I picked up the other day? I think that’s the same half-naked guy on the cover. Of course, seen one and you’ve seen ‘em all, I guess.”

I walk around the table and sit on the arm of her chair. She quickly scoots up into a ball and cuddles further into her blanket. Note to self, move slow. She’s a little skittish this morning.

“It’s the same one I had the other day. Just a romance, nothing special.” Her face is almost as red as her hair now.

“Well, you won’t mind if I look at it then, right?” I gently pluck the book from her hands before she can say anything. She gasps.

“I love a good bodice ripper myself. Let’s start off where you were reading.” I clear my throat and start to read.

Chapter Ten

The first kiss is the biggest indication of how the relationship will go. If there’s too much tongue and teeth, then he’s going to be a selfish bastard. If the lips are soft and he moves slow, then maybe there’s a chance he’s not a complete asshole. -Sam

Ronnie

Oh my God. Please tell me that Sawyer is not about to read out ofLoves Only Desireto me. I sink further into the chair. This is so embarrassing. Worse than the time I got pantsed in front of the entire fifth grade by Willie Palmer.

I know my face is on fire, and I gaze down at my sweaty hands as he begins to read.

“Her breasts were ripe for the touching and begged to be kissed. Isaac leaned forward and took one turgid nipple into his mouth…”

Sawyer’s deep voice, along with the seductive words make me shiver. I glance up at him and notice the faint blush on his cheeks. He seems completely comfortable reading my erotica aloud except for that faint blush. Something about his tone and that light blush emboldens me. I shift closer to where he sits.

“She moaned as she felt his hands glide…”

Okay, is it getting hot in here or is it just me?

I have to put a stop to this before even more lewd parts come from his lips. As it is, my body is warm, and I’m getting incredibly turned on by the rasp of his voice. Also, if I remember correctly, this scene is about to get really, really dirty.

I reach up and place my hand over his mouth quickly, before any more action can take place.

He continues talking, muffled for a moment, and then starts laughing. I felt a soft lick against my palm and yelp in surprise.

“What, were you getting embarrassed? Or maybe it was all just too much?” He gazes down at me and I can see a little bit of mirth in his dark eyes, but mostly heat.

I shock myself by saying, “Maybe a little bit of both.”

“I don’t blame you. Isaac and Sophia were getting down and dirty. I’m not gonna lie. It’s a little hard for me to read this stuff without getting turned on, especially with a beautiful girl beside me.” He chuckles. He flips through the book, licking his lips, as he silently reads passages to himself. He closes the book carefully and turns to me.

“And now I know why all the girls read these things. Y’all are a bunch of sneaky perverts.”

I swoon a little on the inside at the comment about me being beautiful, but try to harden myself. This guy is way too good-looking to not be smooth with the lines. He even admitted to being the kind of pick-up lines. I need to tread carefully.

I grab the book from his hands and shove it under my blanket.

“I’m sure it all seems pretty funny to you. Young, inexperienced Ronnie trying to get romance from a book.” I glance down at my hands. I feel like a joke to most people in my school, especially the people that are here this weekend. But to have Sawyer think of me that way bothers me.

I feel his hand softly grasp my chin. He lifts my face to look up at him. “Hey now, I never said any of that. I think you’re a pretty amazing girl, Ronnie, and you could have any guy you want. I’m glad you’re picky and you seem like a sweetheart. Any guy would be lucky to have you as his girl.”
