Page 5 of Hayden

It was supposedly in the past, but he clearly hadn’t changed.

So I told on him.

I did it mainly as a favor for Kristi. She wanted her dad to know so he’d be hard on Hayden during practices.

But it went too far.

Harrington got traded.

I cringe.

Yeah, as much as I hated what he’d done, I didn’t expect that. I think even Kristi was shocked.

I’m still conflicted about the way it went down. I was kind of the “bad guy” in the situation.

But so was he.

Ugh, so much confusion.

All I know is I can’t stand the man.

Because of that, I was kind of relieved when I heard he’d been traded to the Atlanta Thunder.

I figured I wouldn’t have to see or think about him ever again.

But then, just a few days ago, I landed a job with the same team.

Talk about crazy.

Once my internship with the Chicago Blackhawks ended—with many accolades and a slew of recommendations—I interviewed with a lot of teams across the league. I had my pick in most cases, but my best offer came from the Thunder.

I had to accept the position with them. I’d have been remiss not to.

So I did, and now I’m joining their marketing and public relations department on Monday. My job is with the player image development team. I’ll be what they call a “consultant.”

It should be a cool job.

I hope to eventually have a chance to give my input on events and hopefully even organize a few on my own. But the most fun will be in working directly with the guys on promoting positive, fun things, as well as highlighting all the good they do in the community.

I think about how I’ll most likely never have to work with Hayden Harrington.

Nope, that dude never did any promo stuff in Chicago.

I suspect his time in Atlanta will be the same.

But you never know.

At that thought, a chill runs down my spine.

I sure hope Hayden doesn’t change his ways, as the thought of working with him makes me ill.

Peeking out from under my lashes, I sneak a glance up at the man I love to hate.

But I can only see his right shoulder.

Quickly, I look back down.

Phew.
