Since it’s so mild out, we’ve opted for jeans, flannel shirts over long-sleeve tees, hiking boots, and light jackets.

“Wow, it’s really beautiful up here,” I remark as we step out of Hayden’s Cayenne. “All these woods remind me of home.”

“Yeah, same here,” he says as he closes the SUV door and walks over to me. “I bet it’s really pretty up here in the summer.”

All the trees are bare since it’s late November, but it’s easy to imagine how lush and green they’ll all look in a few months.

Hayden takes my hand, and we meander along a stone walkway that leads to the back of Arden’s very large home. It’s easy to pick out the trailheads even from across his expansive lawn.

We choose a wide dirt path that appears to head deeper into the surrounding forest, and then we start out on our way, hands joined as we walk side by side.

As we traverse the flat but winding terrain, there are parts where we must go single file.

I take the back and let Hayden lead, solely so I can check out his ass, which looks fantastic in his jeans.

I don’t think he even catches on to my wily ways.

Then again, maybe he does, seeing as he just looked back for a beat and caught me red-handed.

He turns back and laughs, and I ask innocently, “What?”

“Like I didn’t just catch you checking out my ass,” he throws out over his shoulder.

The trail widens, and I scamper back up next to him.

“Okay, I’m busted,” I admit. Reaching over to grab his firm ass, I give him a light squeeze. “It’s so nice. I just couldn’t help myself.”

That makes him laugh again, and I realize I love the sound of him being happy.

It makes me smile too.

“Aw, babe, that’s fine with me. But…” His eyes sparkle mischievously. “I get to walk behind you next. Fair is fair, right?”

“Right,” I agree. “We have a deal.”

We’re quiet for a while, until we reach a line of wooden poles with pink plastic ribbons tied on to them.

Stopping, Hayden says, “This must be the end of Arden’s property.”

“Should we turn back around?” I ask.

“Nah.” He shakes his head. “I actually want to check out this area a little more. Arden said this land is for sale.”

Whoa, wow, this is news.

Surprised, I ask, “Are you thinking about buying and building up here?”

“I am,” he confirms with a nod. “But I’d like your opinion first.”

I blink at him, touched. “You would?”

“Yes.” He takes my hand. “It’s important to me what you think before I make any final decisions.”

My heart flutters. Hayden wouldn’t be asking for my opinion on things, like where he may build a freaking house, if he didn’t see a future with us.

Squeezing his hand, my whole being filled with joy, I tell him, “Let’s go check it out, and I’ll be sure to share my every thought.”
