Walking away quickly, I don’t dare look back.

I can’t believe I just said, “It’s a date.”

But I sure the fuck did.

Maybe Willow didn’t hear me, as I was speaking kind of softly.

But what if she did?

I tell myself it doesn’t matter, as it’s not like a literal date.

Or is it?

The bigger question, and the one troubling me the whole walk back to my house, is do I want it to be?

Willow

Iget up early the next morning, but the whole time I’m getting ready to go skating at the practice facility with Arden, something he said before he left last night is on my mind.

Is this a date?

Is it?

“No,” I tell my reflection in the mirror as I pull my hair up into a high ponytail. “That’s just an expression. You’ve used it yourself with friends.”

And I have.

So I’m not going to read anything into it. I don’t know why I’m even obsessing over it. I mean, it’s not like I’d ever date Arden, anyway.

“Right, because you’ve sworn off men.”

Yep, I have.

“And don’t forget it,” I scold my reflection.

Shaking my head, I run my hands over my black-leggings-clad hips. I also have on a matching long-sleeved tech shirt. Though it should be warm enough while skating, I still grab a light jacket out of the closet, along with Addison’s white figure skates.

It’s close to nine o’clock, so I head downstairs to wait for Arden.

But when I walk outside, I discover he’s already in the driveway.

Cool.

Smiling, I jog over to his car and hop in. “Hey.”

As I belt up, he asks, “How are you this morning?”

“Great.”

“The fire was fun, eh?”

“It was,” I agree, nodding. “The s’mores were pretty tasty too.”

“They were,” he says, laughing as he puts the car in gear. But before starting out, he peers over at me with one raised brow and asks, “But the question now is ‘are you ready to skate’?”

I nod. “I am.”

“Good.”
