This is not a crazy night of unbridled lust that’s going to end.

This is not friends just trying out the next level.

No, this is two people falling in love.

After our night of finally consummating our relationship—again and again—Willow and I fall into a comfortable pattern. It’s really just a continuation of how we were spending most of our free time together before our misunderstanding, but it’s even better.

Yeah, now there’s sex.

And lots of it.

But, of course, it’s more than that.

We also spend many of our nights together. She’s at my place more than I stay over at hers, so she ultimately brings over clothes and some belongings.

I like it. It makes me not feel alone like I did a couple of months ago. I enjoy seeing Willow’s curling iron and her makeup on the counter in the master bathroom. Hell, there’s plenty of room, as it’s one of those Jack-and-Jill double sink setups. I also like how she’s not messy. Her stuff is neatly organized, just like how I keep my things.

We really are a perfect match.

So it’s no real surprise when the Fourth of July rolls around, falling on a Friday, that I suggest we go to a nearby rural fair that’s putting on a big fireworks display at night and she’s instantly into it.

She laughs and tells me, “I was thinking the same thing. I saw a big poster for the fair on a telephone pole the other day and I was like ‘Wow, that sounds like fun.’”

Wrapping my arms around her, I murmur, “I guess it’s true what they say—great minds think alike.”

“Mmmm…” She stands on her tiptoes, brushing her lips over mine. “They do say that, don’t they? But I say, right now, forget about our minds. Let’s see how our bodies align.”

I laugh.

Damn, I love this woman.

I do.

I know it—in my heart, in my soul, in my mind.

The only thing left to do is tell her.

I’m just waiting for the right time.

Willow

Arden points to a food stand and asks, “Hey, do you want cotton candy?”

“Ugh, no.” I touch my stomach with the hand not joined with his. “I already ate more than enough. One more thing and I think I might explode.”

He laughs, but I’m not kidding. I’m stuffed. We’ve been at the fair for a couple of hours, and we’ve already consumed hot sausage sandwiches slathered with tomato sauce and green peppers, french fries covered in gooey nacho cheese, and funnel cakes sprinkled with powdered sugar.

So yeah, I’m done eating for the night. Except for maybe Arden later. He’s still on the menu.

Hee-hee.

Shaking his head, he says, “I should stop too. I have to get back to eating better food soon or I’ll be showing up to training camp overweight and out of shape.”

“Yeah, right.” I roll my eyes. “I think you’ll be fine.”

He will be, for sure. Arden’s body is freaking lean and hard. He skates and works out all the time, usually with Nils down at the practice facility. He’s probably worked harder on keeping in shape this summer than most of the guys.

Bumping his hip with mine, I say, “One day of debauchery isn’t going to kill you.”
