Yeah, you can only fight fate for so long.

In the end, she always wins.

Hopefully, so will I.

But I need to get to Willow before she takes off.

As I’m driving, racing up the highway as fast as I can, I think about that shot I missed in the playoffs.

Wow, I haven’t thought about that fuckup in a long time.

Willow helped me forget initially, and then, when it would cross my mind, I just made a promise to myself that I’d never miss a chance like that ever again.

That’s one big reason why I’ve skated and worked out so diligently this summer.

I won’t blow a perfect shot a second time.

I’m also sure as hell not going to lose out on my chance at happiness.

No, I’m not missing that shot either.

More determined than ever to catch Willow before she’s gone, I hit the gas.

Willow

Just as I’m slipping into the driver’s seat, I realize I left the stupid key fob inside the house.

The car was unlocked, so I didn’t think of it till now.

“You won’t get very far without that fob,” I say out loud. “You need it in the car for it to start.”

So much for moving forward.

I go back into the house and grab my key fob off the tall stand just inside the front door.

“Got it,” I murmur as I step back outside, my hand on the knob, ready to close the front door and lock up once again. “Now let’s try this for a second time.”

I’m feeling back on track, but then I glance over to where my car is parked and falter.

“Wait, what? Arden?”

I hate to admit it, but simply seeing the man makes my heart soar.

But then my blood starts boiling.

What is he doing here out in my driveway?

And blocking my car?

Clutching the key fob tightly, I march over to my car, blocked by Arden’s silver Audi.

The smug ass is leaning back against his hood, arms crossed over his wide chest, looking hot and kind of cocky.

Grrr…

Can a person be happy and mad at the same time?

I think so, as I’m both.
