“He-he’s gone. He…every movie. He’s taken them all. There’s nothing left. I’m too late.”

The gathering tears finally overflow, raining down my cheeks to drip onto my hands that are gripped in my lap.

“I have to let him go,” I whisper.

“The hell you do. Mi, this is your chance. Your choice. If Garrett is who you want, then fight for him. Tell him how you really feel.”

“Wh-what if I do that and it doesn’t work?” I ask nervously.

“It’s a chance you have to be willing to take,” she tells me.

Suddenly, I’m reminded of how we started this crazy journey.

“Are you willing to take the chance? On Garrett?”

“Absolutely,” I say with conviction.

It’s time he learned that I’m not giving up on us. On him.

I’m all in.

Chapter Fourteen

GARRETT

I might as well be sleeping at my office. I never leave here.

But my apartment feels weird. It’s still mine, but it’s not home.

It’s not Mia’s.

Too bad my brain is having a hard time getting on the same page as my heart. And for once, my brain isn’t winning. My heart is tired of being hurt, of expecting her to feel something she so obviously doesn’t. It was only a matter of time before she left me. Now I don’t have to constantly worry that it’s on the horizon.

“You look like shit,” Claire says, walking into my office and plopping on my couch.

“Gee, thanks,” I respond dryly.

I face my computer screen and hope she’ll get the hint and go back to whatever she was doing before intruding.

No such luck.

“You all done moving out of Mia’s?” she finally asks.

“Yep.” I pop the P without looking away from my computer.

“Have you talked to her again?”

“Since the other night when she basically told me she wanted her ex more than she wanted me?” I ask. “That would be a negative.”

“Based on what you explained, I don’t think that’s what she actually said.”

“Pfft. Your logic has no place here. Close enough.”

“There you are.” Meredith, Arabesque’s Assistant Choreographer, walks in next and sits beside Claire. “What are we doing?”

Christ, what is this a staff meeting?

“Bugging Garrett.”
