Chapter Two

GEMMA

Nothing went according to plan last night. With keeping the ceremony simple, we didn’t need a true rehearsal. A few people walking down the aisle is all we have. I didn’t want any fuss.

I only want to be married to Blake.

To become Mrs. Blake Travers.

And now, with my sister’s life imploding, it feels weird to be walking down the aisle professing my love when hers in shambles.

I only hope that after the wedding, there’s something we can do to get her love life back on track. Because I want her to have the same happiness I’ve found with Blake.

“Are you ready, sweetheart?” Mom asks, as Layla starts her walk down the aisle.

Smoothing one last hand over the intricate dress my sister made—a deep v in the back gives it a sexy look, with beads and pearls sewn into the shimmering fabric—I nod.

I’ve been ready since Blake proposed with the story of our relationship.

Dad is waiting for us at the back of the aisle. Every seat is filled with people we love. These last few weeks of been nothing short of amazing.

With so many family traveling to come here, we wanted to make it worth their while. And getting to spend so much time with everyone we love has been the best part.

Until now.

“Ready, Gem?” Dad asks me. He has tears in his eyes as he takes in my dress. “You look beautiful. I can’t believe you’re getting married.”

“Thanks, Dad. I’m ready.” Taking a deep breath, I link arms with him and we turn to see everyone standing as the music flows around us.

It’s then I lock eyes with Blake. He looks as sexy as ever in a white shirt with suspenders and deep burgundy pants. He’s beaming at me, and all I want to do is run down the aisle to him. Tears well in my eyes the closer we get.

“Slow down,” Dad whispers to me.

“Sorry.” I try to slow my pace, but it’s hard.

I never imagined this day would come. With my dating past, I didn’t think I’d ever find a good man. Then Blake came to town and showed me exactly what I was missing.

I’ve never felt more safe, more loved and more cared for than I do with Blake.

After what feels like forever, I’m standing in front of Blake as he hugs both my parents. I hand my flowers off to Layla and take both of Blake’s hands.

Hi, I mouth to him.

You look beautiful he whispers back.

“Thank you, everyone, for coming together on this most happy day to celebrate Gemma and Blake.” Gramps’ voice booms over the quiet space. “We are lucky to know these two. As individuals and as the couple they’ve grown to be.”

Gramps continues as Blake squeezes my hand. More love is shining out of him than I know what to do with.

How did I get so lucky?

Gramps’ words bring me back. “Now, you both have prepared your own vows–”

“Easy for the writer.” Everyone laughs at my interruption, as does Blake.

“Well then, why don’t we hear what he has to say?” Gramps smiles at me before turning to Blake.

Taking a sheet of paper out of his hand, he looks nervous. He steps in closer, still holding onto me.
