Katya wants to be a dancer. I will let her go to that conservatory in London because this is just a temporary respite that saved her life. I will give her the independent life she wants.

I don’t know what love is. I understand craving and obsession, but it’s not the same thing. I get lusting after something, but after the thrill of the chase, I feel nothing.

Katya can’t stay a virgin, though. The more ruined she is by my cock, the safer she’ll be from her father trying to marry her off to another scumbag business partner to save his fledgling brotherhood.

I whisk the rose back from Alexei, and let the stem dangle between my front teeth. “Sorry, pakhan. Your daughter is my wife. It’s my right to deflower her. If she consents to me, I’ll be taking her nightly.”

Alexei scoffs a laugh. “I raised a good girl. She won’t want you.”

“Youdidn’t raise me,” Katya contradicts her father from the kitchen door.

I spin around and smile at my brave little bride strutting toward us.

“Mymamanraised me. Then Yulia, who you killed.” Face bruised and a bloody wedding dress, any other princess would fall apart. Not my bride. She isn’t afraid of her father, the most powerful man in the Bratva. Or me, given how she looks at me. Sliding her hand into mine, she adds, “And you have no idea what I want. And if I want Lachlan that way…” Our eyes meet and my cock strains against my tight suit pants. “Then that’s between him and me.”

She invites a kiss with her eyes, and I bend to take her mouth. Fuck, maybe I won’t let her go to London. I brush my lips against hers. This ache I feel cannot be denied much longer. This itch I couldn’t scratch will be satisfied by her nails down my back while I fuck her so hard, she will never want another man inside her again.

Seeing her flushed cheeks and glassy eyes, I sneer at Alexei, “I need to getmy wifeto a doctor, thanks to your neglect.”

It hits me out of nowhere—he’smy father-in-law. All I’ve been able to see is how Katya will fit into my family. Shite, I’m also part of hers.

I’m connected to the Bratva.

And it’s fucking falling apart.

CHAPTER NINE

Katya

“Youneedadoctor,”Lachlan says, cupping my chin gently when we’re back in his brother’s house, surrounded by his family.

Glancing at all the faces, I struggle with the names. Some I remember, some I don’t. There are so many of them. Gulp, my name is technically O’Rourke now.

It’s so surreal. I’m married toLachlanO’Rourke. His stare carries so much weight, and the depth in his eyes makes me feel like he can swallow me whole.

I should be terrified of him. I’m not out of immediate danger. I’m just in a different spider web.

Yet, I feel utterly safe, encased in a warm, soft cocoon. And the way his eyes crinkle in the corners with mischief suggests he’d love someone to try and pluck me away from him.

“I’m fine. I know how to treat bruises,” I answer him when my silence makes him uneasy.

Lachlan’s upper lip curls into a snarl.

“From dancing,” I clarify quickly. “It’s hard on the body.”

“Ewan’s wife, Darcy, got her RN and can call in meds,” Griffin offers.

“Thank you. I just want to take all this makeup off. Can we go…” My legs go weak, realizing I can’t go home.

“My house. You’re coming with me, little one.” Lachlan’s hand around mine tightens. “I assume I can take my wife home, my king?” He stares at Kieran.

He grins. “I’ll even give you a few days off for a honeymoon.”

Honeymoon.I stiffen. Will he want a real wedding night? This is not a real marriage, as far as love. But he is my husband. I said I do. I signed the marriage license. I told my father I’d give myself to him. If he wants to take my virtue, he has the right. Do I have the right to say no? Looking at him, the body of a God, and the face of a warrior, scarred and rugged, I’m not sure I want to say no.

“Where do you live?” I look up at Lachlan.

“You’ll see wherewelive.” He may not have planned to marry anyone like Papa said, but I feel he’s all in on this fake marriage.
