“Evil people aren't the exception to the rule. Evil people are the rule. Get that into your cute little head!”

“I don’t believe it.”

“Wanna bet?” He raises an eyebrow and pulls my head even closer until our foreheads touch.

I notice his intense gaze fixed on my womb, which he hasn't taken his eyes off since he mentioned the baby. His free hand travels over my butt, and I gasp as he grips one of my cheeks tightly, feeling his athlete's fingers dig into my tender flesh, causing a tingling pain.

“Manasseh...” I rasp out his name and put my palms on his chest, which rises and falls fast.

“I don't want to hear any name from your mouth that isn't mine,” he clenches his jaw and locks eyes with me. “Only my name, Becca, is always on your lips.” Our chins touch, and I feel his lips along my jawline. “Call out my name!” he demands and squeeze my buttocks.

Ding, dong!

“The door,” I manage to say before my voice breaks.

“Fuck!” He straightens up and grumbles irritably as he hears the insistent doorbell. “That must be the food,” he turns and exits the bathroom. “Get ready! I won’t wait for you, just so you know. “I'm starving too.” He tucks his hands into his pants and before he disappears into the darkness of the hallway, he gives me a quick up-and-down look, still a bit flushed.

I sigh and close the door behind him.

“I don't want you to ever wait for me, 'cause I don't know if I can give you what you want,” I say to myself, staring into space. “We two don’t work…”

CHAPTER 26

Present

Rebecca

The waves crash against my legs, and I feel the evening's coolness as I look at the sunset.

I haven't slept all night, feeling like I'll break if I keep going at this pace. It was just a matter of time, though. After taking a bath and nearly falling asleep in the tub, I went to eat. Manasseh didn't join me, so after I headed to the room where I assumed I should sleep and laid down, I was out cold. My plan was ruined from the very beginning, as it only took a blink to realize that the half hour I wanted to sleep turned into a whole day. I could've sworn that I have slept enough to catch the sunrise, but when I looked at the clock, I realized that the orange sunrays were far from foretelling the start of a new day, but concluding the current one.

I sighed when I saw that the clock displayed almost 8:00 PM, and I got out of bed, still disoriented as I stepped onto the empty terrace, so I decided to walk on the beach, watching the sunset in silence.

The sound of the sea washes away any trace of anger and relaxes me, enjoying the pleasant sensation of sand slipping between my toes. I straighten my back, take a deep breath, and for a moment, I feel free. It's the ocean's effect, the same effect that not long ago Samael's eyes used to have on me.

I wrap my arms around myself and let the sea breeze comb through my hair.

I'm only wearing the hotel's robe, the breeze easily passing through the pearly satin material, making me shiver slightly.

Out of nowhere, the breeze that was whistling behind me gets disrupted by an unexpected presence. Before I can react, a strong grip holds me in place. My hands are tied up together, and my head is tilted back gently, with a steel-like arm wrapped around my neck.

“Where's all that boldness from the parking lot, piggy?” Masse's voice brushes my ear as he leans my head against his chest, his eyes locking onto mine from above.

“Sleeping, just like yours,” I playfully push my hips against his, feeling his reaction immediately, our bodies sparking up with every teasing touch.

“You really wanna get to know my boldness?” Manasseh's lips graze my earlobe as he leans over my shoulder, holding me close against his chest, his firmness pressing against my butt, strong and pulsing.

“Surprise me!” I challenge him, my lips parting slightly as I lean even closer to the hard and warm area of his pelvis.

I'm aware that Manasseh can be provoked by simply casting doubt on his virility, and let's be real, he'd have to be insane to make a move here, in public. So, why not annoy him a little?

“One more word and I'll put you into doggy style right here and fuck you in front of everyone until you see stars,” he grabs me and then lets me go.

I laugh, taking two quick steps forward, and when I turn back, I'm planning to land a punch, but Manasseh grabs my wrist before I can complete my thoughts, intending to immobilize me again.

Without giving him time to react, I flex my knees and hit his shin. The damp sand and his obnoxiously solid build don't help him, so my seemingly harmless hit shakes him. I don't let the opportunity slip away and attack again, just as the instructor at the gym taught me.

When you face an opponent stronger than you, the only solution is to patiently wait for the right moment and not hesitate. Strike! You have one chance. Make him regret underestimating you. Show him that in a fight, power isn't everything; it's the will, just like in life.
