If I were to add myself to this list, I’d probably just be the Priest’s Daughter, so it’s better if I exclude myself.

The hours are ticking away, and I can’t seem to reach Samael, so I’ll leave him a message.

I don’t expect a text back anytime soon because Samael isn’t the type to reply to messages quickly. If you were lucky, he would respond on the same day, but if not, probably the next day, or the day after that... The chances of him responding decrease with each passing day.

That’s just how he is, indifferent to these childish things, while I’m stubborn as hell. I was planning to message him tomorrow in case we don’t see each other at school.

I spend the rest of my day eating something as soon as I get home, and then I study for next week’s exams.

I reach out for my tea mug, sitting right next to my laptop, and open up the Cloud folder that’s packed with a bunch of files sorted by date. Carelessly, I almost spill the tea on the keyboard. I breathe a sigh of relief and open the last folder with pictures from the last game. I open another one and start comparing them, trying to spot the differences between them.

Samael at the beginning of high school, versus Samael now, after two years of high school.

He had a single dimple on his cheeks, one that I had just discovered, as Samael wasn’t much of a smiley guy. His posture was always hunched, with his shoulders pushed forward and a slight slouch, slender in build, and tall as a tree. I for one find him cute, even with his tired appearance, because Samael always seems exhausted, with pronounced dark circles under his eyes and disheveled hair as if he couldn’t find a comfortable sleeping position, tossing and turning all night long. He smiled after scoring the decisive goal for the school’s football team, and I made sure to capture that moment, once, twice, five times... Damn it! I had that frame of his smile down to the second, I could have made a video with the number of photos I took.

I give it a quick scroll, then another, and just as I’m about to scroll again, an error message pops up on the screen.

I’m sorry. The file has been deleted or moved from the local folder.

A chill runs down my spine, and when I try to refresh the Cloud, everything turns blank.

My heart races and each breath feels heavy in my chest.

Where did they go?

Where are all my photos?

I log out, input my credentials, and when I log back in...

Nothing.

Everything has disappeared, and now my Cloud account is empty.

I sit there, petrified, staring at the computer screen, struggling to comprehend what just happened, when my phone buzzes, and my heart nearly jumps out of my chest in fear.

A message.

That’s all it says. The message is received from a number I don’t have in my contacts. Immediately, I receive another message, and attached below, a photo of Samael from the graduation ceremony in eighth grade.

I feel like screaming. It’s like a nightmare come true.

My Cloud account had been hacked!
