I snorted. “I believe the words you’re looking for are ‘alleged crimes.’”

Guard dog took a deep breath through his nose.

“We have a witness.”

I raised my eyebrows. Surprise was not something I liked to have in these situations with the law.

“You have someone claiming they saw me do all these bad man things?” I said, actual curiosity betraying my voice.

At my question, my heart stopped. The door opened, and stepping inside was my breathtaking obsession. Her pale blonde hair twirled up in a bun. Makeup coating her fair skin, but some red and purple tints shining through.

“This is Criminal Analyst Ella Fox,” Quinn said.

My brain pounded like a drum, Ella?

Remembering the hospital visit, I recalled reading on her discharge paperwork, ‘Ella.’

But I figured it to be an alias. She was protecting herself. My jaw dropped as my Little Shadow placed herself on the chair across from me. Her haunting gray eyes flashed in my mind and all the times I’d looked into them.

“Ella saw you assault me,” Quinn said.

Ember—No, Ella stared at me curiously.

“She is the one who will arrest you. CSA Fox, the prisoner is yours to question.”

I stared at the woman. My heart squeezed in my chest. Her presence seared me like a rusted blade in my heart.

“Lucius,” she said. My name on her lips always sounded so lyrical, like a lullaby. Now, it was cold, hesitant, but calculative. She betrayed me.

I fell in fucking love with a cop.

One who must be undercover?

But that didn’t make sense. Undercover cops didn’t murder perps. They caught them.

So why….

“You are aware of your charges,” she said, putting a stray light blonde hair behind her ear. “Do you have any questions before processing? I see you’ve forfeited your right to a lawyer to be your representative.”

I simply stared at her.

The woman I’ve loved and hated for years has been chasing me all this time? The princess tricking me into tasting her poison? To become addicted? Anger, pain, betrayal, and confusion swirled in my eyes. Every emotion, every word said to her in my eyes, but one.

“Why?” I finally said.

She studied me, her beautiful eyes wide, unsure, and curious. How could she act like she didn’t even know me? That I was just some criminal. My black heart shrunk. Anger took over, and rage like a burning fire was all I could see.

I barely heard the enforcers read me my rights. I did hear how I would be transported tomorrow to a high-security level containment. I would be refused bail and a pending trial for multiple other crimes linked to me.

All I could see was the damning eyes of the one I loved, who had watched me, who had caught me, and who would watch as I died from her poisonous kiss.

Iwoke up on a park bench. My body hurt so badly that it was like a train ran over me, and then passengers on the train decided to jump on my face on the way out the door. Lucius was going to be upset that I wasn’t in bed. He’d likely punish me for it, but honestly, I had to admit I didn’t think I’d mind too badly.

He was somewhat of a lovable psycho…maybe even my lovable psycho.

He promised me we’d find the chief. Get answers about where the leader of all this shit was, and then it would be over. I could live free from all my pain, never having to shed any more blood.

Stretching and looking around, I realized I wasn’t close to Lucius’s club. I had fallen asleep next to a police station. The last thing I needed was to be seen by the dirty cops. They were probably wondering where one of their little piggies had gone by now.
