“Yeah. This afternoon. He stormed in and was throwing his shit around. Dragging it out to his car. Dude was possessed. I’ve never seen him with a hair out of place, and he was… wild. He kept screaming about Will.”

“Will?” I couldn’t follow all this, but the mention of Will’s name didn’t sit right with me.

“Yeah. I don’t know. Just kept screaming that this was all Will’s fault.”

Will’s fault? Grant left school because of something Will did? Will and I had just had a great date the other night. This couldn’t have anything to do with that, could it?

Hunter continued, “But he wouldn’t talk to anyone that risked getting close. I was gonna go check on Will now, see if he knows what’s up. He’s been at the gym.”

“You know what, let me go talk to him.” I started to back away before Hunter could stop me.

“You sure? You seem pretty riled up. Maybe talk to him later?”

I could tell Hunter was nervous about all this, but I couldn’t let him give Will a heads up that I was headed over. I wanted answers and didn’t want him to have time to prepare some pretty lies.

“Yeah, maybe you’re right,” I lied. “I should cool off first. You make go sure he’s okay. I’ll catch up with him later.” I kept backing away, making sure to get far ahead of Hunter.

Once I was out of his sight, I ran. The closer I got to Will’s place, the more my blood boiled.

How dare he interfere with my courting season like this! We had one good date after a slew of disasters, and he thought he could get my alpha kicked out? Unbelievable!

When I finally got to Will’s dorm, I banged on the door, praying I was far enough ahead of Hunter.

He threw it open, looking freshly showered and smelling delicious. He looked pleasantly surprised to see me, but I watched his face fall as he took in my demeanor.

“Sweet Pea. Hi. What’s wrong?”

“What’swrong?“ I seethed. “What’sWRONG? We hadonedecent date, so you decided to sabotage yourcompetitionand get Grant THROWN OUT OF SCHOOL?“ I was in a full blown rage now. I didn’t think I’d ever been this angry.

Any doubts I had dissolved at the immediate show of guilt on his face.

“Mia, listen—“

“NO. I WILL NOT LISTEN! I should’ve listened to youa week agowhen you warned me that you would do anything to win! And here you’ve done it. I shouldn’t be surprised. But that’s not the kind of alpha I want.Youare not the alpha I want.”

“Mia. Omega. Wait—“ The anguish in his voice almost broke me. He glanced over my shoulder, and I turned to see Hunter walking up, but I ignored him.

“No. This thing between us, it’s done.”

Turning to walk away with the despair on his face was physically painful. Every bone in my body ached to fix this. To apologize for putting that look on my alpha’s face.

But he wasn’t my alpha.

And he had done this to himself.

So I kept walking.

Chapter Twenty

Annawasoutwithher girlfriends, and I knew I shouldn’t be alone, so I dragged myself to Tanner’s.

“What’s up, buttercup? Oh, no, this isn’t good.” His tone morphed from cheery to concerned as soon as he registered the state I was in.

“You’re like the third person today to happily greet me and then immediately switch gears,” I pouted, wiping the constant tears away.

“Well… maybe there’s a reason for that. Wanna talk about it?”

“No, I walked over here to sit alone,” I snarked, glaring at him as I barged into his dorm.
